Someone gotta give me a chart that tells me who's the strongest touhou. Is there a powerlevel chart of any kind? Because characters like Youmu seems so underpowered when you look at like Fujiwara no Mokou.

What he did is rank them in terms of ingame difficulty(Pretty much stage order), I think. Vivit is from the seihou series.

Using her manipulation of eternity on a plate will make it impossible for it to break, get dirty, change color, etc

This is a quite rough list. Approach and use it with a very big grain of salt. There's no way of actually knowing how many battles between two Touhou going all out would end up. In the end, a lot of it is speculation on a theoretical level. Not to mention that there could be paper-rock-scissors effects everywhere, meaning that, some Touhous powers are more effective on some opponents.

When everyone is frightened of Reimu that's because they're terrified of her beauty.

Also giant lasers are pretty too so that's why Marisa gets places.

Tenshi is physically powerful as a celestial, as demonstrated in SWR she defeats multiple characters one after the other.

Flandre's power is quantifiable as "wreck your shit" level, as destruction of you is what she does. Koishi has the power to avoid even being noticed and screw up your brain at the same time, meaning counterattack is effectively impossible unless she reveals herself.

The former has demonstrated her ability, the latter two have informed abilities.

Youmu has demonstrated an ability to move incredibly fast, and if you take spellcard names as truth that speed is faster than light. Magic won't stop someone if they've already cut your arms off. However this is, as you say, still not exactly an overwhelming power

Everyone loses to everyone in the fighting games. If you want to rationalise it Yukari deliberately loses at "lower power" to educate Youmu. It's not as if they are fighting flat-out or anything.

Well, considering I didn't go past Patchouli in EoSD(Only bullet hell I played) and I play Hisoutensoku all the time, I have no real clue of the actual lore.

I can't say I'm convinced. Tenshi defeating people in SWR doesn't work as an argument; in that case Reimu should be no.1 on the list.

Flandre and Koishi both have pretty hax powers, but we don't know it would work out for them in an actual all out battle. Flandre is mentally unstable, and her powers are very high risk. Not to mention she is young and inexperienced. As for Koishi, it's hard to say how well her powers would work together with other similarly hax abilities.

You have a point, but like I said, I'm not really convinced.

There are no "fights" in touhou, just danmaku games to resolve plots base on symbolic things done by a drunk japanese.

You are basically part of the secondary fanbase that most people think of.

My concept of primary is people who enjoy the games and appreciate / know official works. And "powerlevel" crap hardly fits official works. You can make theories of limit-less moves using the characters powers and speculated possibility of powers but that's not official at all.

Let's take Reisen for example. She can cause you to see, taste, hear things. With such a bland concept of what ZUN says about her power you can think of her doing really awesome things, OR she can just make you feel dizzy and see strange colors or feel things that actually don't exist.

Also, many people use game difficulty as a shove of power, which is silly, since spell cards effectiveness and power is measured by the thought of their creator when they are made, always symbolic shit.

You see now how silly it is to say "X is stronger than Y because she can W"?

That's all true, but you did not mention the most basic problem.

There's no actual fighting in Touhou canon. Ever. Every conflict (like, say, two characters being in the seeing distance of each other and not being particularly happy about it) is resolved by means of danmaku. And danmaku rules basically forbid using your actual power and allow everyone to defeat everyone. You can speculate about actual powers of the characters, but you'll never know how they compare to each other, because they'll never use them. Never ever. They'll shoot fireworks instead.

Well, as far as I thought, the spell cards were replica of a certain ability, such as in 10.5 and 12.3. I understand and know that you can't have a complete chart of who's stronger than who, because this is not a game about people fighting, but there's still powers because Zun created touhou characters with certain ability and powers. It's just that I could hardly see someone competing against someone who had way inferior skills, but again I read some post earlier what's the logic in touhou's bullet hell conflicts and resolution. As suigin said, I don't know the bullet hell that much still, because I'm currently too occupied anyway to fully complete them, I just wanted to know /jp/ opinion.

Umm, you're using a rather different definition of fighting here. You somehow think of a boxing match, while the actual struggle of power between two extremely powerful magical creatures we're told Touhous are would look nothing like that. "Actual" was a key-word. As in, not-for-sport. Hitting each other's faces is all fun and games by Gensokyo's standards, they could theoretically do much worse things to each other with as much as a flick of the finger.

I was under the impression the PC98 games were set before the spellcard rules were made, since they specify that a spellcard must have a beautiful name (I think they're somewhere in PMiSS), and I don't see any names in the PC98 games.
They may still have been under a different set of danmaku rules, but perhaps not. If not, then PC98 characters' powers can be judged by their in-game abilities.

If you want to dig deep into the plot you should start from the first game, yes.

Even if you can't beat them you can read the dialogues and other stuff online. Also character profiles and official works. You don't have to force yourself to beat the games, however that would be the best way, specially for PC98 games which we don't have a translation.

Just because ZUN didn't came up with "Spellcard" in the past doesn't mean you can say they didn't exist in PC98 era. Of course they technically don't exist but it's just patterns of bullets changing depending on the life bar, it's the same thing.

Actually, the PC98 games are supposed to be obscure, ZUN implies that there is a line between the windows games and them. That doesn't mean they are not canon or anything, but they are meant to be in the past.

Most of characters are there just for a good and old danmaku battle because they are bored, a good example of that is Alice.
