Battler fights with his golden sword, and announces blue or gold truths that either A: Buff him, or B: act as scrolling projectiles on the screen that cause damage.

Beatrice fights mainly by summoning the stakes and commanding them with different inputs, and can use red truth that buff magical attacks and give them different graphical effects as well. (So two witch characters fighting might become a large clash of magic.)

Kinzo has primarily dragon-based attacks (Think of him summoning beasts out of his body like Nrvnqsr).

Jessica would use brass-knuckles. Her special would be to enter ROG-LIMITATION mode, which involves pillars of fire. Her finisher would be a one-winged eagle punch.

Gohda would use sauce pans, his special would be to enter magic-chef mode, involving putting on a chef hat and using the Gluttony stake. His finisher would be to use his rose pudding.

Eva would use kong-fu and the rifle, her special mode would be Evatrice. Her finisher would involve her reverting to Eva, and the entire screen going black as she shoots once with her rifle and causes the screen to fall apart.

I'll say it...
I think Umineko deteriorated after the first episode. Maybe it's me but the whole magical thing really pisses me off. It's all good to have some epic battles like in Higurashi (Akasaka, mothafucka), but introducing all those witches and demons and magic battles really didn't do it for me.
All I wanted was a nice murder mystery and it had loads of potential, but all the magic-talk quickly overshadowed the importance of a culprit, a motive and a manner. I hope to god we get a nice, clean, non-magical explanation in EP7 and EP8, if not I am severely disappointed.

Rant over, am I the only one who thinks this?

Same here though for different points, EP1 was everything I could ask for a series of any kind, as soon as Beato appeared it spoiled the whole mood for me.

Ryukishi will release a secret "happy end" episode, where Battler, afraid of boats, befriends and tames a sperm whale he encounters. Now with a way of stable marine transport, he will ride his giant whale friend to Rokkenjima. Only 4 groups of animals have attained true flight, insects, bats, birds and pterosaurs. We've got insects and birds covered with Higurashi and Umineko, so there's a 50% chance the next When They Cry game will be called When Pteranodons Cry, set in the Cretaceous Period with a Tyrannosaurus rex protagonist (he'll have tiny ham hands) fighting against the Witch of Extinction (revealed to be a meteor) for the survival of himself as well as all his scaled kin.

Alternatively, it will be "When Bats Cry", a mystery game set in a remote Transylvanian village during 18th century. The protagonist will try solving a chain of murders in the village without resorting to the Vampire argument. It will be revealed that vampires exist but are decent people, however they do carry rabies like actual bats so some of the townsfolk got infected, went crazy and inflicted the mysterious bite wounds on the victims.

Oh, oh, I got an idea for a plot!

It's about a manly as fuck Amnesiac Pirate Captain, who is coersed into helping the Cia or some shady
organization. Goes around fucking shit up and sleeping with beautiful women, that kinda shit. The motiff is all about not letting people use you and staying true to your own morals. The Pirate Captain dude is kinda crazy, though, and he has hallucinations all the goddamn time.

He ends up remembering that his name is Ushiromiya Battler, but HOLD THE FUCK UP, he's actually Jessica, the whole manly thing was a persona manifested from severe trauma or something

i'm with you on this. I love a good murder mystery and the first game gave off the perfect vibe for an enthousiast like me, but the whole magic scenario was a turn off to be honest...
I enjoy reading the games and speculating and forming theories, but I really hope we get a 100% non-magical explanation at the end...if not, Ryukishi's the ultimate troll

Will and Clair run through all of them at the end. Will has solved and "explains" all of them, but some of his explanations are incredibly vague (deliberately, fitting in with what he's trying to do, but.)

So for the reader, it's less like an explanation and more like more hints, some of which are pretty clear (Episode 3 closed room chain, "the beginning and ending overlap", or stuff related to Kanon, "an illusion cannot leave behind a corpse"), and some of them are just hilariously obscure (almost everything related to EP4).
