Zun is a good artist

>> No.6338484

Once I showed ZUN's art to some guy and he said, "I don't know what you are talking about, that's pretty decent art."

>> No.6338482

But he's lazy as hell.

>> No.6338489

>>6338476
Then post his art instead of this

>> No.6338498

ZUN art grew on me over the years, before I looked at his designs and wondered why was he so shitty, now I look at his designs and wonder why isn't there more porn drawn like that.

prof utonium is a true /jp/er.

>> No.6338558

He's getting better but I wish he would stop getting people to help him(Alphes,Randou on 12,etc)

>> No.6338566

His pixel art was the best.

>> No.6338569

Art is not limited to drawing.
He also does music and designs his own game series.

I'd say he's a damn good artist.

>> No.6338574

I don't mind his stuff but I really prefer SWR/SWRS's portraits to the typical ones.

Yeah, Touhou looses its charm if it isn't a one-man project (+ testers).

He intentionally limits himself to spending very little time on most of his art. If he spent a few hours on each portrait, they'd look a lot better.

>> No.6338614

>>6338600
Oh, and get the Alphes out of the ZUN column.

>> No.6338619

>>6338604
Well, I've drawn more or less regularly for 7 years and I don't really have any brag-able drawing skills. Some just don't have the talent or devotion. Besides, pure technical skill isn't the only thing needed to pass on an idea. I like ZUNs art a lot, but admittedly, you can see the laziness at times. Like the player portraits in MoF, Reimu looks really bad.

I would think art is what you would see in the Louvre.

>> No.6338656

if you can call picaso art, well...

once you get the radical out of the art it gets boring. anima was once art as well. take ghost in the shell for example.

Yeah, well, i never cared about modern 'art' anyway.
Demn i feel stupid.

Beauty iss in the eye of the beholder anyway. and there is charm in a new and different style of art.

>> No.6338697,1 [INTERNAL]

>>6338686
also, the louvre doesn't have a monopol on the definition of art.
rather, what in the louvre is defined art by the many people, the same way that some people call the works of picaso 'art'

>> No.6338697,2 [INTERNAL]

Art needs to have a meaning to it, a message. If it's just a pretty picture, it's not art, no matter how well it is made.

>> No.6338697,3 [INTERNAL]

>>6338697,2
does it means that the mona liza is not an art?

What about pieces of paintings that the original artist had no special meaning whan creating them but yet people still see hidden meanings in them?

>> No.6338697,4 [INTERNAL]

>>6338697,2
People read messages in everything, though.

>> No.6338697,5 [INTERNAL]

>>6338697,2
A lot of this has to do with composition, I feel. You need to put careful consideration into where you want the viewer's eye to focus first when you're making a piece.

Most artists don't do this anymore. Pieces are too subject-oriented, and there's not much consideration for the play between the subject and its surroundings.

Well, I don't really know how we got on this anymore anyway. We're talking about Zun's character art here.

>> No.6338697,6 [INTERNAL]

>>6338697,2
I strongly disagree. Art needs to provoke an emotion, not be full of clever symbolism.
"Just a pretty picture" is just as valid as art (if not more, since it at least looks good) than works that are all about hidden messages.

>> No.6338697,7 [INTERNAL]

>>6338697,6
A message is not synonymous with symbolism.
