One of my personal wet dreams is a world where reverse colonialism took place. Just imagine a world where the Black Death ravaged Europe to the point that it was barely impossible to keep a government running. Centuries after centuries, foreign powers would sail from across the ocean, or to one point of the Mediterranean to the other, to carve out a piece of Europe for themselves. Eventually, even Japan would wise up to the profitability of this venture and delegations would be sent to Europe to open trades. However, a lot of territories have already been claimed by the Tartars, the Chinese, the Arabs, the Aztecs, the Tlaxcala. So they have no other choice but to try and strike a deal with the British Isles using good ol' gunboat policy. The impoverished people of the British Isles know that this would bring their centuries-old self-imposed isolation to an end, and try to defend against the invader in every way possible, as their own mutation of Christianity holds that they (the British) are among the holiest of the holy.

FUCK YOU

Japan is the greatest nation in the world. Do you really think filthy, shitty soldiers from mere EUROPE could invade Glorious Nippon? The Japanese superior sword, Katanna can split European shit swords in half with no problem. It can even deflect bullets. Don't think your shitty soldiers will ever be a match against the master race that is Japan.

Actually, no one cared about medieval Japan in Europe. Span and Portugal tried to proselytize the Japanese and when the Tokugawa shogunate closed the borders in 1639 they just didn't give a shit anymore.
It was all about China back then. China was the center of the Asian world, the forerunner nation for both Japan and Korea (who had both been vassal states to China at some point), and the most important partner in trade.

I guess if the British cared enough, they could've made Japan their colony like they did with India. They just didn't.

That’s it. I’m sick of all this "how can a sword cut lasters" bullshit that’s going on in Strike Witches right now. Katanas deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.
I should know what I’m talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine katana in Japan for 2,400,000 Yen (that’s about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut apart Neuroi beams with my katana.
Japanese smiths spend years working on a single katana and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest blades known to mankind.
Katanas are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a longsword can cut through, a katana can cut through better. I’m pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a fully armored Neuroi with a simple vertical slash.
Ever wonder why the Neuroi never bothered conquering Japan? That’s right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Samurai witches and their katanas of destruction. Even in the Second Neuroi War, they targeted the witches with the katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected.
So what am I saying? Katanas are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the Strike Witches. Here is the stat block I propose for Katanas:
- Can deflect Neuroi beams from all directions
- Can cut through an entire Neuroi hive in one strike
Now that seems a lot more representative of the cutting power of Katanas in real life, don’t you think?
tl;dr = Katanas need to do more damage in Strike Witches, see my new stat block.

Do you want to be wise? Learn Aikido
Arguably the most powerful martial arts in Japan.

An Aikido practitioner is practically invincible, no one of any martial arts background can ever land a punch or kick on one.

Using the power of the attacker, the Aikido practitioner uses absolutely no energy to knock them down.

A fearsome martial arts it is
