Ugh, Krad, you were a tough cookie back when I played regularly. For my first time back in months, that's one hell of a match to walk into. Oh wells, t'was fun anyways, just hope my rustiness didn't bore you. Is it me or did you make 6A safe by Master Sparking? Definitely caught me by surprise. Speaking of 6A, that one match that ended with my trying to graze 6A during Spring Wind and running out of orbs was terribly funny. Less funny was that 3[A] to Sure-Fire Master Spark that you landed and all of those Blazing Stars in the middle of my (admittedly imperfect) blockstrings. GGs and thanks for the beating.

Well, it's hard to do ground combos when your entire approach is "stay in the air, spam 5c" or "if you're anywhere close to me, spam 6a." If you don't even know Patchy's entire move set (which is larger than any other character's, not that that says much), you should probably take a visit to the wiki in the OP. After you are familiar with all of the moves, what cancels into what, etc., devote some time to spectating (I recommend the IRC for this) and a lot of time actually playing. I will still play Patchy if you want me to, though I would like to switch around a bit~

If the bloc voted to kill it it would be gone, you used your stupid party to take peoples rights away for political gain. Fuck, just choke on something and die. As a Patchy player, there's not too many combos you actually need to know to play effectively. She's fairly straightforward in that respect. The only combos you really need with Patchy are:
5AA 4B 6C 236C or 5AA 5B 5C 236C
j.5A j.4B j.5C
j.6A j.6C
j.8A j.5C
66B 5A 5C
22B/C 5C j.8A

More important than combos, try stuff like this:
-If you 5/6C on the ground, launch a 421B/C as well. You'll cover more of the stage in projectiles. In addition, you can high-jump cancel the 421B/C for a j.6A/j.2A to try and catch any aerial approaches.
-5AA 4B 5C in corner eats a nasty, nasty 3-3.25 orbs, assuming the opponent correctly blocks the 5AA. This can lead to some nice guardcrushing. Your best follow-ups to a guardcrush are Noachian Deluge, St. Elmo's Pillar, Silent Selene, and Royal Flare.
-If you score a knockdown, quickly put down a 22B/C. The opponent will be forced to either block the spout, locking him down and eating orbs, or tech away. If they're cornered, there's only one direction they can tech in, making them that much more predictable.
-Play around with the alternate 236 skill card, Wipe Moisture, the flame sword. It adds a very well-welcomed melee move to Patchy's repertoire, cancels out of all of her ground bullets, and gets stupidly long range at level 3. Don't take this card against characters with dense projectiles like Sakuya though. You need the fireball there to break their projectile cover.
-623B Spring Wind is a nice move to use on wake-up (when you're getting up from knockdown). It has melee invincibility for a short time, graze frames, and pushes your opponent backward, giving you some breathing room. It is punishable, mostly by charged melee attacks, so don't over-abuse it. At max level, random 623Bs utterly destroys approaches from melee-centric characters like Youmu.

They are the default attack notations for this game numbers represent directions as shown on the numpad assuming you are facing right. ABCD are the buttons, A being melee B being the first bullet C being the third bullet and D being dash button. j. in front means that it's the move you do while you are jumping or generally in the air, so j.6C is her forward C bullet in air, meaning the watersprout, it's main usage is clearing bullets and comboender, it's just annoying if you keep using it all the time and will not kill anyone who has some experience with movement. j.8A would become her melee when you press up and A in the air, which translates to that massive ass tree, it's a powerful tool in her arsenal, but randomly hoping for it to hit will only invite pain to you when it whiffs or is blocked.

No one has so far wasted my time by being new, but if you keep using silly tactics that don't work and just make the rounds needlessly long, that's a bit frustrating in the long run. I know quite well that you've been playing quite a while, and you should've already learned that two moves are not enough to play a character with

Good games, Duckator. That's one sweet Sakuya there. You're really well rounded too, I just wonder why you played the zone game so much (which you're great at) instead of approaching more, since you're really scary on the attack. I also haven't played anyone who could make all of my bad habits so unforgivably annoying, maybe that'll teach me. >I just wonder why you played the zone game so much instead of approaching more.

Usually, I stay back when I'm at a life disadvantage or when I'm leveling up cards. Plus, you threw out a lot of 66Cs so it made it hard to approach using bullets. I'm sure the bullets would have stuffed your 66As but I didn't want to risk it too much. Next time I'll take some more chances since I know what to expect from you now.

Remilia doesn't really have any good combos off of a 5A anyways. In the corner, just finish it with 2A 2C. Midscreen, don't bother with anything, just 5AAAA. Being a good Remilia means learning her non-5A combos, and there's tons of them. Here are a few easy ones, definitely not the best damage she can get off of them but a good start to learning how to follow up connects.

2A: 2A 2C J5AA
3A: 3A 2A 2C
J5AA: J5AA J5AA J5A J8A
J2A counterhit (ground bounce): J2A (land) 2A 2C

2. Same goes for tech rolls. For a while there you'd tech in the same direction every single time, and if you keep doing that, I can just go to your wakeup spot and wait for you in a way where even I don't know which side I'll be on. 4 of Reimu's system card in every deck. It's that one I was using that caused the big blue explosion and knocked you back. Every character except maybe Youmu and Remilia NEEDS to have them to get out of pressure.

Other than that, just put the best skill cards and spell cards in your deck and whatever system cards you happen to like. I always use Yuyuko's system card (the one that made the 3 pink bullets above my head) on every character, but most of /jp/ seems to think it's a garbage card. Just play around in practice mode and figure out what cards you like.

Haha, I sure have to be careful when I throw out those 2Cs these days as you consistently punish me using it with that vertical flight. Thanks for ditching SC to play with me, I know how addicting that shit can be. Hope you had as much fun as I did, time for me to handle some homework~

You being too flashy? What about every time I got 2 swords and a dragon kick, it feels like you would bait me every time. I'm always so focused on getting it out, it ends up costing me my concentration...

I need to play a bit more reserved, I think.

That reminds me of another highlight where you ended up getting 80% of my health off with that ridiculously long combo, but somehow I still came back to win the round! I don't actually pay much attention to your cards except when you have the tornado reversal or that 5 cost counter card. I also mash while you're pulling off that long sequence in the futile hope of you making a mistake mid sequence (hey it happened once!). Those games I was focusing on punishing your j.2B graze traps, and mostly chasing to the air whenever my B bullets were blocked. Good times.

I've forgotten how much fun Aya is to play. I was having too much fun bouncing around at 2x speed to even figure out what at least one of the skill cards did. Actually, I have no idea what I even have in her deck, it's been so long since I used her. Or anybody for that matter since I've bared touched it since 1.05, but especially her. Too used to slow Yuyuko these days.

You need to adapt to your opponent. Trying to play exactly the same way against everyone without really learning what to bait and modifying how you approach is going to lose you a lot more matches than you'll win. Until you find yourself consistently being able to download your opponent, you might want to consider playing with the goal of downloading each opponent, instead of sticking to your own methods. Rabbit is the same way, in my opinion, though I guess if that's how you have the most fun then it doesn't really matter so much.

This is, of course, just my observation. Please take it with a grain of salt.

Nah, Solid advice that has a lot of merit.

There are days when I do play the reading game and set up traps or bait, but as you pointed out, I enjoy the game the most when I try and move at my original pacing. I'm hardly concerned with winning when I play online, so it's all about having a good fun match with my opponent. Counter playing tends to ruin that, specially when it involves turtling.

I'll take this to heart though, I'll improve when I can bait and trap without losing any of my own pacing.

Good to see you again too Guy. Generally when I'm Youmuing if what I'm doing doesn't work, ill do the same thing but *faster*. Then if that doesn't work, spam DPs and lose. Bait and punish type play you see in high level games just frustrates me to no end (maybe I should stick to BlazBlue). I think there is some good news though as Renee has learned how to get through my stuff from seeing all day every day.

not really. there's no such thing as border escaping to safety, especially if you do it every time you're being pressured which is really predictable. high tier, which is to say japanese phantasm, mostly border escape aerial pressure but not so much ground and don't use many coins either. i see them a bit on characters with no dp like komachi, but still not often. bombs are used the most and get baited quite a bit. i guess most of them agree that counters are for lazy faggots, i rarely ever see them using them.

>> No.6347417

>>6347092
Counters can be beaten on reaction with a DP/invincible spellcard. Bombs have to be baited, and you don't always guess right. Bomb CH can also lead to damage. And counters often trade hits, bombs don't. literally the only thing counters have over bombs is you can use them while you're blocking.

There's alway a way out via border escape. Always. You just have to find it.

>> No.6348392

>>6348332
and what exactly makes it safe? is it some magical power harnessed in the greatness of border escaping, or that your opponent didn't read it? anything can be safe a few times, but not when your opponent starts expecting it. it's not like the recovery and physical vulnerability can be shrugged off. it's another story in the air against certain characters without a physical j.skill, though.

>> No.6348409

>>6348392
The basis of a fight between two people, in a game or not, is to be unpredictable. If your opponent doesn't switch up to punish your escape for the gap you found in his offense, then you can just keep doing it. And if he does wise up and swap out tech, then your initial problem no longer applies 50% of the time, because he'll be expecting you to try to get out. There is no 100% road for any pressure escape, but very few games have a character with a "you block, you die" pressure game.
