We all know we pirate everything we can.

But what are some cases that you actually _buy_ things that you know you can just pirate?

I buy touhou games. Only the shooters. I grab them from share/torrents first, but when a friend goes to japan (or a friend from japan comes here) I have them bring back games.

I buy gaems that I actually like and play more than once.

I buy PS3 games.

I buy official English translations of games I like, such as YMK and Recettear, even if I don't actually use or even look at the translation. I just want to support the English VN/doujinsoft community.

why dont you just download onscripter bro

I buy PS2 games because they're cheap second-hand and I don't want to bother with a modchip and all that nonsense.

Not flexible enough, non modern dated code and no Mac support... we just can't simply abandon Mac users... they have feelings too you know... BTW... nice to see you again my friend...

I've probably bought 20 games in the last few months, most on 360. Heaps of shmups, VNs, iM@S etc.

>> No.6306675

I buy pc games that I like, such as Dead Rising 2, and Amnesia, and pirate the bullshit games akin to Dragon Age 2. Mostly I pirate when the company decides to be a jackass and pull what bioware did to DA2.

>> No.6306748

The only prerequisite I have for buying something is that I have to really enjoy it. If I am very pleased with the game, I have no regrets buying it, "supporting the developer", "showing my gratitude for the fun time" or whatever. My $ shows devs what I want. If they can deliver even more fun with their next game, then I'll pay again and so on.

Nothing else really matters for me.

>> No.6306753

I buy anything I enjoy. I always download first, though. I'm a sucker for collectibles so if I end up enjoying a game, I'll buy everything related to it.

With my shitty connection, I only pirate games that I want to play yet don't want to support the devs (namely, Recettear with its viral advertising bullshit, and most xenophobic Jap VN devs).

I'm going to get an e-reader soon, paper is going out, unfortunately.

All I buy is figures, for the most part. I bought Atelier Rorona 3 to support NISA in the hopes they'll release Tottori after AT3. I won't be buying anymore games until Ar Tonelico 3 comes out.

I guess I don't buy 2D games, then, since they pretty much never come out anymore on the PS3. If Atlus/NISA/anyone else release a 2D JRPG I'll buy it to support them, but I don't care about other genres since they'll sell well without my support.

I thought the whole reason you get an e-reader is to cut down on eyestrain that comes from reading large amounts of text while the backlight shines at you. Using an Ipad defeats the whole purpose of this.

>> No.6306846

I only tend to buy games I'm hyped for. I tend to get them on release date too.
My most recent were Heart Gold, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Monster Hunter 3 and No More Heroes 2.
Not much to look forward to as a DS, Wii and PC owner right now though.
Maybe I'll just get the new Pokemon and Fable.

>> No.6306849

i honestly buy what i pirate if its a series/show/movie that i enjoyed so much that i want to support the studios and staff that created that said. hence, i have hellsing ultimate vol 1-3 waiting on monies for 4 and waiting on 5-7 to get finished. though geneon US went an heroed on us, itll still be done. but i pirate the upcoming stuff and watch the fansubs. if anything, theyre ratings. crunchyroll fansubs apparently has a premium members episode availability one hour after airtime for naruto that gets reviewed by the japan broadcasting corporation for its ratings board. so in effect, if its supported by the broadcasting companies, whatever you "pirate" from japanese broadcasting is counted towards their ratings. not so much for movies and other stuff, but pirating isnt all THAT bad. like i said, true fans support their habits by throwing the artists some money their way.

I have a Kindle. I'm really hapy with it. I simply don't have enough room for more books in my house. Since I bought it I've put about 200 books on it I got from torrents etc.

It isn't the same as paper, but eh. I have a heap of books available to me and the screen and e-ink look fantastic.

I buy a fair amount of figs too. It is a real addictive thing to get into.

Import 360 games such as the Cave and G.rev shooters and of course imas. I also purchased a bunch of import PS2 games, and about $300 worth of doujin shooters including all the Touhou games.

Lastly, I purchased a number of the VNs that had translation patches available.
