One semester of grammar should be enough to get a text's meaning. learning Kanji is more important since you will get the alot.

In the end: You will need 2 or 3 years to really enjoy reading japanese texts. AGTH methods are fine, but they really damp the experience of a VN. (that's why I only read nukige when it comes to untranslated VNs)
