Did /jp/ never play shooters before Touhou crap? Having tried them, I don't see anything special about them that hadn't been done before.

Could you say "no" to that face?

Didn't think so. That's why I play the Touhou.

I'm quite surprised no one's mentioning R-Type.

Also, a gradiusfag here.

Blue Wish Resurrection.

It's free, it's good (though not pretty), play it now!

On topic, I played quite a few shmups before Touhou; Dodonpachi, R-Type, Tengai, etc. I like Touhou as a game, and I would still playit even without the cast. The characters help it's appeal factor, but it's still a solid set of games.

The average shooter doesn't hava a million doujins and armpits.

Also, Touhou holds prestige among all the youtube faggots who call us gods for just beating the game.

Also, I liked axelay.

>> No.6290

They were my first bullet hell game, so they have a special place in my heart.

And before anyone asks, I played the Touhou games years before I became a Touhoufag.

I played some raiden and Raptor.

>> No.6306

I play Raiden 2, Ikaruga, and plenty of other shooters.

I like Touhou for the music and doujins.

>> No.6309

Of course. I grew up playing the shootan-em-ups

I enjoy them Touhou games. They're made by a fanfag of shooters, for other fanfags of shooters.

>Raptor.
Holy shit. I completely forgot about that game.

I also completely forgot that in a wave of nostalgia, I put it back on my computer recently.

So, if Touhou didn't have those music and characters, would you have liked it? I mean, do you think it's still awesome as a pure shooter?

>> No.6396

probably a less awesome game but superior to most anyway.

>> No.6399

>>6379

It's still alright. First big bullet hell series.
It wouldn't be nearly as popular without the doujin and music though.

>> No.6392

I played Ikaruga and a few others, but the music and all the fanworks got to me.

The appeal is infectious, or somethin'.

>> No.6465

Touhou is actually the first game of it's kind I ever played, so it's not really all that surprising to me that I'm shit at them.

>> No.6481

It's a solid game, and I would still play it.

I wouldn't like it near as much though. Music and characters are part of the theme. Without it, I'd just play Raiden II.

>> No.7836

Raiden & Jet Series, Dodon Patch, Raptor, Gradius 1 & 3 (never played 2 though), Life Force 1 & 2, Alot of those arcade shooter games which i can't remember (prehistoric isle is one of them).

but none of them are end with a cup of tea

>> No.7843

Ikaruga, but I found Touhou superior because I could actually play it and not suck hard.

>> No.7864

only raiden and some mini game shooters, I suck at such games so I tend to avoid them. Now I'm playing touhou for the lol story and dialogs.

I remember those games. I also remember playing the numerous shooters on the NES. Like Lifeforce. And there was a dragon one too. Power-ups gave your dragons multiple heads. Up to three, iirc.

A friend and I played Raiden I and II a fair bit long ago, and I played a few others here and there, but never really got into them until I started Touhou.

shmuppies have always been one of my favourite genres even though I suck at them (I've even made a couple of freeware ones, though more often horizontal than vertical+danmaku). I'm not much of a touhou fag though, apart from sometimes listening to the first boss music from PCB on loop for hours.

rRootage was a friend in college. I might suck, but it gave me crazy Fantasy Zone skills that pleased the audience.

I actually started playing the games before I knew there was a whole galaxy of doujinshi, music cd's, and whatnot. I played a lot of shmups growing up: Gradius, Biohazard Battle, Raid Project (oh god, the quarters I spent playing Raiden Project in the arcade), etc. I just happened to see them for sale at a convention, bought them, played them, and before I knew it I was fapping furiously to delicious armpits.
