Does /jp/ ever consider moving to and living in Japan? Or is it simply a place you would enjoy visiting?

>> No.6241818

I consider it. If only I could get a job there, I'd go right after I'm done with my BA.

Import tax is a bitch.

I don't think I'd like to live there since I don't know the language, but I've visited Japan once before and I'll probably visit it again some time.

I already visited it once and might do it again later, though I never considered living there. I don't feel the need to move out of my country.

>> No.6241855

I plan to go over and teach next year. There are many reasons why. I never really considered it until a friend of mine went over for a year and had a lot of interesting stories.

>> No.6241857

I think it might be fun to live there for a little while if I was rich, but currently it's out of the question as it's really fucking expensive to live there, isn't it? I'd rather just take it easy somewhere like the Philippines where the cost of living is cheap.

>> No.6241863

I absolutely love huge metropolises, so yes. Too bad social security is nonexistent there so I'd be forced to either get a job or starve to death.

>> No.6241869

I'll consider living there when I get filthy rich, and even then there's probably way better alternatives.
I'm not so big on this sight-seeing thing either so I can't see why I'd want to be there temporarily for that matter.
So yeah, it's never going to happen.

I lived there for a while. It's very different and exciting, but expensive and tiring. I would consider living there for an extended period of time again, but I would never settle down there. There are advantages and disadvantages to being foreign, but on a whole, it'd be difficult to adjust 100% and just isn't worth it imo when you can live in NYC or a nice European city and fit in a whole lot more.

>> No.6242014

I'm kinda proficient in the language, but not fluent, so wouldn't stand much chance in finding employment over people fluent in both. ;_; Maybe I'll just have to be a $30,000 salary for life English teacher. Then I'd be too poor to have kids, at least too poor to put them through college.

I could be a salaryman in my own country, but bleh. I hate loud westerners and the bad food. I don't want to compete with other salarymen acquaintences I know, since they'll be making at least double my salary.

Since when was /jp/ concerned with fitting in?

I fit in fine with otaku/nerdy Japanese people, who are the only people I ever hang out with IRL, and even if I didn't get along with them I spend most of my time on the internet anyhow so it wouldn't even really matter. Live here for a good many years and you should be able to pick up the language as long as you're not seriously retarded.

Living in Japan means I get to chill in Akihabara, chill at 2ch offkais, go to Comike, etc. I don't get why /jp/ brags about being so anti-social and self sufficient, and then all of a sudden is concerned about fitting in with normalfags when the discussion turns to living in Japan. I cannot understand why more /jp/ers don't live here. It's really a pretty fuckin awesome place to live if you're an introverted anti-social nerd, that's why they have so many of them over here.

Well there really are some people who think they are only losers because of the country they are in. They really do think they would go outside if they lived in Japan. The funny thing is Japan would be even more cruel to them than the people they are currently around.

Let them dream, nothing but reality can sway them.

>> No.6242111

Those are the kind of people who shouldn't come here. Coming to Japan (or any other country for that matter) isn't magically going to turn you into an alpha male.

If you're a TRUE NEET hikkikomori or whatever, then it really doesn't matter where you live since you're never going to go outside or have any interaction with other humans offline. If that's the case then yeah, I guess it's best to live in your mom's basement, or somewhere cheap and close to home, just because that's the easiest.

But if you're somewhere in between, i.e. you do stuff offline occasionally but you still pretty much only ever interact with really weird, offbeat people, then I think Japan is a damn good country to live in.

Well, I would NEVER wish to have been born in Japan. The life of the typical Japanese person looks pretty shitty to me, at least from what I know of it. If I were really rich, I'd probably live in a different country every month or so, just because I can. But sadly I am nowhere near wealthy enough to afford that.

Indians don't stay in America because they want to stick it to whitey, they stay in America because their lives are better in America than they would be in India. It would be the opposite if India was a wealthy Westernized country and Japanese were the third-world shithole.

>Indians don't stay in America because they want to stick it to whitey

It has been my experience that Indians have nothing but extreme contempt and dislike for anything that is white and breathes.

Of course, that extends to everyone else who isn't Indian, regardless. But you must be having a laugh with me if you genuinely expect me to believe that Indians come here because they like the United States. I'm not saying they wouldn't tell you that, because they want to fit in here. But I've lurked on enough Indian messageboards, and lived with the slimy SOB's long enough to know what's really happening.

They came here because they like making many times more money than they would in the United States. Nobody gives a shit if they like the United States as a nation; they care about the quality of their lives (in the United States or elsewhere.) People emigrate to seek better lives; if you didn't think it would better you wouldn't leave.

>Every country (at least EU ones) blames foreigners for their mishaps nowadays. Especially during the recession.
German here. "We" don't blame them for anything, actually banks and politicians get most of that, which is probably correct.

My position is, that foreigners are no bad thing per se. If everything works out, both sides profit from immigration.
That said, it doesn't work out, if you let stupid hillbillies naturalize, they may import their hillbilly family, and make stupid children. This is the case in most countries with a high foreigners-quota, and thus also in Germany. We got so many Turks, that hate Germans with all their might, while 80% of Turkish house holds receive social welfare paid using tax money. When I walk to the train station a bit later in morning, say 10 a.m., since lectures for the day start in the afternoon, two groups of people dominate the town centre: (1) Pensioners that get together for a cup of coffee and to buy groceries, and (2) young Turks that slob around and apparently have nothing else to do but look at their mobile while blocking a house entrance.

We are not talking about racist prejudices here, these are facts:
Turks in Germany receive relatively distinctively more social welfare than Germans, still they throw stuff like "Scheiß Deutscher" ("fuck germans") around themselves.
Turks in Germany are more often fundamentalist Muslims than Turks in Turkey.
Young Turks are ill-bred: They shout at their mobiles, at each other, and especially in public transport. They engage in far more criminal activity than German youths. Finally, a large portion can't speak German at an acceptable level, which brings us to:
Young Turks mostly end up on Hauptschule, which is a speed pass for no hope in life.

Send them back to Turkey, that would be the best for both sides. Given that Turkey wants them back at all...
