Why does /jp/ seem so divided on bird Touhous? Someone would comment on how they suck, and then someone else would reply on how they are the best.

What's so great or bad about them to you? Who do you like best?

A lot of them have a greatly divided fanbase for various reasons. Mystia isn't particularly strong and gets eaten by Yuyuko. Aya gets her own games. Okuu arguably comes off as an evil villain in SA and is annoying in 12.3.

I don't want to argue with you on weather or not Okuu is evil, but her dialogue in SA suggested that she had no regard for other lifeforms. Regardless of her intent, her means to an end suggests that she is more "evil" than not, but I use that term very loosely. Also, Reimu did have a reason to go down there and stop her.

Utsuho - Hell Raven. Is actually kinda cute if you ignore the whole nuclear fallout thing.
Hatate - Rival of Crowslut which means she in turn is loved.

The only one that's really hated is Aya, and that's more due to overexposure (lol) than anything else.

Guhin - "foliage tengu," typically depicted with canine features

How about these ones: alternate names for kappa always include the character for "river" - "kawa;" keep that in mind.
Kawatengu - "river tengu," a kind of water dwelling tengu
