Finished FSN. And it was really, really average.

95% of the cast was completely unlikeable, the exceptions being Kotomine himself and Rin. The plot wasn't all that good, though it did have it's moments. The resolution was either extremely stupid or doesn't resolve much at all, depending on which you take.

That said, I didn't hate it. It was interesting enough to keep me reading, but it never wowed me or made me experience any emotion at all, for that matter. The sad moments never effected me, and the 'intense' moments made me go ''meh''. Everything is pretty much forgettable.

Can somebody explain me why people hyped it so much? Because there's absolutely nothing special about it.

It's more of preference thing.
If idealistic crap appeals to you then it can be a winner, otherwise it can be somewhat mediocre or worse.

If that idealistic thing doesn't fly with you, most of the non-action-ish parts might bore you, and you might have a hard time understanding why shirou doesn't do much and why he stuff when he actually does them.

If idealistic stuff like that do appeal to you, then as mentioned, it can be a winner. Because it is kind of good at that and there aren't many other VNs who has that sort of thing as a strong point.

Fate had so many boring parts that those who played through just dropped it afterwards. UBW solves this problem though, with an intriguing Archer plot and badass throughout the entire route. HF then became gay with LOL 1 HOUR OF COOKING LOL 1 HOUR OF GRAIL HISTORY LOL 1 HOUR OF ACTION LOL 1 HOUR OF COOKING etc.

Lancer was cool I agree.
But one of the main problem with FSN is that Nasu really needs a good editor.
FSN didn't need that length.
Also in the end the only character who felt well developed was Shirou, which once again a shame for a VN that long.
Though his development was far too heavy handed at times, how many times did we have to see the "town in fire" flashback?

The concept is very nice though, but Nasu didn't take it far enough, HF should have gone far deeper though, in the end it feels like Nasu was afraid to discontent his readers or something, the end result was far too mild.

Too bad, I would really love a VN which really focus on a proper deconstruction of Good vs Evil, what is a hero, etc...
