Yo, \jp\. Why should I read the Umineko VNs? They don't even have voice acting.

>> No.6200905

Serious question, by the way. In case anyone thought I was a troll or something.

If you can't even spell /jp/ i doubt you'll be able to comprehend the piece of art that is Umineko

>> No.6200914

It's pretty bad actually.
From my observation most fans are fangirls and faggots who only care about shipping.
So if you are one of these it could interest you, personally I dropped it during episode 4 simply because the writing was fucking horrendous.

One sound of Beatrice's laughter will cause you to collapse into fits. Would you really be able to stand it if she said more. You're not PAHFECKTO you know.

Why should we persuade you to read it? Go play something with voice acting or something.

There are no pictures there. And he doesn't like reading. Probably Gaia.

>> No.6200927

Butt think about it. If there's no Japanese voice acting and you're reading it in English... It's not even Japanese anymore. It's like watching anime dubs. Lost its appeal as Otaku merchandise. What's the point?

Should I wait until I can read Shinji fluently and then read it?

And no it's not about shipping.

Aslo, what is the connection between Higurashi and Umineko? I know that grown up Rika plays a part in the VNs, but what happened to the rest of them?

The first episode was actually kind of good, and it left makes you wonder how episode 2 would be, and how it would continue from episode 1 and if it could manage to pull it off better.

Then in episode 2 they introduce all these new aspects of the world, and you are left in wonder how everything may work, but in actual story quality it may very well be worse, so without episode 1, episode 2 would be a goner.
Anyway, you are most likely too busy thinking about all the new stuff introduced and with comparing it to episode 1 to notice any real significant change in quality.
And it does a good job in leaving you wondering how the new things introduced matters for the story.

Then, in episode 3 they actually use the things introduced in episode 2 decently, and you start to understand the signifigance of episode 2 and the mechanics in general.
And it does a good job in making you wonder how these new mechanics, that are apparently important, really matters for the story and how it's supposed to fit in.

And then, in episode 4, they instead focused on percpective, language, different terms to make you understand the mechanics better.
And it also dedicates a shitton amount of time, trying to expand the world, which they didn't really do in the previous episodes that were played on the same field, with the same characters, doing roughly the same thing.
And there's when there is a sudden influx on how the world around them looks, and how it matters to other people.
In many ways it felt like episode was kind of an "episode 1" all over again, but when I say that I don't mean that it was like episode 1, I meant more like it was an episode more suitable earlier in a story.
Episode 4 introduces a new protagonist and focuses on entirely different things than what episode 1,2 and 3 made you all worked up about.
And in that sense it's a real downplay and may dissapoint a lot of expectations, even if it gets back to all that other stuff later.

And through all of this, many might miss how there is a quality loss in each episode compared to the previous one, it's just how Ryu07 feeds the fanbase with new stuffs and details all the time for them to miss that the actual quality is now lower.

But then there's Episode 5, and episode 5 and onwards sort of focuses on what was never made clear previously, and tries to cover various doubts.
This time the focus of the perspective have changed quite much and it's more like you are reading the same story, but from behind the scenes.
And here it tries to live on everything from the previous episodes.
And episode 6 is pretty much a continuation of episode 5.

But at the same time, the actual story is always what has been present in episode 1, and as each episode passed, they became more and more distant to episode 1, even though all of them leaned and relied on it nonetheless.
This is pretty much Umineko.
A story that has gotten worse and worse, wheras more and more mechanics have been thrown in to make you jump deep down in thought on mechanics as they might be relevant to the story, and less so on the actual story.
And by this most people miss the actual decline of quality, because they are too busy thinking about other things.
