When you hear random "fandubs" of songs on Nico, it's quality shit. Check out Akiakane's recordings for example. The japanese can even do english covers better than english speakers can.

Youtube user fandubs are utter shit. I haven't heard a single decent one yet. They all seem to think singing in their crappy mic that came with their computer over top of the music playing in the background is acceptable and worthy of praise. Maybe if they could sing worth a damn, but they can't even do that...
