I dressed up my little sister as Patchouli Knowledge, once. She even has asthma, so the illusory effect of it worked out surprisingly well. She seemed excited about the chance to play dress up, which was good, because I don't know what I would have done with the costume otherwise. I had spent a few months making it, and hadn't bothered to come up with an alternate plan.

Once we had everything on, she seemed pretty excited. She liked how the long, violet hair bounced and fell when she leapt around the room (this didn't last long, she started wheezing pretty early on, poor girl) and she kept stroking the ribbons in her hair, apparently pleased with how shiny they were. After I helped her take the proper dosage of her inhaler, she motioned for me to pick her up. Obediently, I carried her around the house in my arms, the silky fabric of her robe rubbing against my skin. She smelled faintly of soap and brown sugar.

Eventually, she grew tired of touring the house, and asked to do something else. Athough I'd tried to explain to her that Patchouli was a magician, she seemed to believe that she was an Indian Princess. We made some cookies (sugar) and shared them with some of her stuffed animals.

Hoping that she'd eventually fall into character, I asked her to read me a story, and hoisted her up to the bookshelf. She picked a book and hid it from me, wanting to surprise me with the contents. I lay her on her bed, and rearranged the pillows around her until she deemed it was comfortable. She was reading some story about mice that I couldn't manage to pay attention to. She was a novel within herself, each movement a microcosm in itself, each brow furrow a heavy foretelling of what was to come. She tired quickly, however, and fell asleep within ten minutes. I tried to remove the costume (at least the wig) and she shooed my hand away, murmuring that she wasn't finished yet.

The next day I found the whole outfit rumpled and discarded, my sister returned to her own, hopelessly needy and extremely annoying identity.


For whatever reason, I had to break up my post into two seperate parts, and I got hit with spam detection the second time. This is ridiculous.
