TOKYO (AP) -- Japanese authorities were silent after a sudden jump in the dollar against the yen that traders said was due to the Bank of Japan intervening in the currency market Friday to weaken the Japanese currency.

Do you think we could luck out and have the dollar gain significant ground against the yen? There's some stuff I'd love to order.

Why would Bank of Japan seek to weaken its own currency? It makes very little sense.

Japan is an export oriented country, unlike the US. So they are highly interested in keeping their currency at moderate levels.

Nintendo, for example, has lost money during Q2, even though it has some tons of goods, since the Yen is so strong.

The dollar will still be shit because the US government is printing money like it's going out of style.

"A week dollar improves exports." That all we export is shitty popular culture produced by Hollywood jews who "lose money" doing it and pay no taxes on it. Food grown by illegal aliens who send their money back home and wars paid for by this generations grand children has not struck them as important.

So no a weak yen will not help an even weaker US dollar.

I certainly hope so. I have 22 figures pre-ordered, so every dollar saved helps.

The dollar is falling too compared to my currency, so that's fucking great, when it was at its lowest point a while ago it was at like 70% of the usual.

Good times, never change.

Why is the yen so strong when Japan is in the middle of a terrible recession the likes of which americans can't fathom? I don't get economics

Japan has a higher unemployment rate than 12.4%? That is what it is "officially" in California so you can double that for the real number here. You can do the same for the aggregate for the whole USA too. If for example you are over 50 and out of work you will be unemployed the rest of your life as a cheaper replacement for you has already entered the workforce and is looking for a job too. I don't think Japan is that bad.

I believe there's a shortage of manual labor like machinists in Japan because of the stigma of that type of work over there, and an overabundance of white collar workers who can't find a job.

Stigma? What, are they associated with prostitutes or something? It's not as if they are doing anything lewd.

But, if there is a shortage, that means they must be well paid.

blue collar work always has a stigma attached to it in countries that focus so heavily on education.

Not everybody gets to have a transparent floor office though. And the unemployment is a bad sign too. Those who do not have jobs will have to do worse jobs like driving taxis or store clerks/vendors, if they are lucky,

Yes. I consider being a salesman worse than having to work in a factory.

The Yen rebounded it was a rumor.

It's mostly due to cheap money combined with deflation.

The Bank of Japan lends money almost with 0% interest, and money is increasing in worth in Japan.
