Do you guys ever feel guilty when you blame the dog for the shit on the floor?

One time he was in the room and looking at me with sad puppy dog eyes when I did it, it almost broke my heart. I'm not sure if he was crying because he knew I was going to blame it on him and felt betrayed or because of the impending beating that my parents were going to give him for it.
