How is it that Key can be so popular when everything they produce is derivative at best and an outright duplication of their last foray into the exciting world of magical AIDS at worst?

That aside, their artwork is horrid, and their writing makes Nasu look like Heinlein by comparison. I really cannot understand it.

(In during "but they made Planetarian." Yes, they did, and they celebrated its release by never doing anything good ever again.)

>> No.6156804

Maeda is a better writer than Nasu, easily.

And they are the first one that did lots of thing, so saying they are derivative is so fucking retarded it blows my mind, it's the other companies that do Key.

Even your beloved R07 is a huge key fag and used the key formula a lot on Higurashi

It's easier to pander to the lowest common denominator than actually produce something of any quality.

I used to think so before Angel Beats!

But Planetarian is their worst game, it doesn't even try to hide the fact that it's just
meet kawaii girl -> girl dies -> reader cries

Angel Beats was more of a problem of adaptation, Maeda actually publicly apologized for it despite the anime being a big commercial success.
It shows that an anime and a novel are 2 very different media.

He should of thought of that before he wrote the bloody thing.

Their first titles had strange artwork yes, but they slightly got better.
If you're wondering why Key stuff is so popular yet you hate its guts the answer is simply that your tastes are different from other people.
You are of course free to claim that your tastes are better, if it makes you feel good.

>>6156792

The only reasoning I can see for a shit post like this, is if you think Key's only other work has been Air, Kanon, and Clannad. If that's the case, you clearly don't understand the fact that the art/designs perfectly match the time period they were released (early 2000s).

No comments on the writing. That's pretty much a matter for preference.

>> No.6156846

Air was one of the first eroge I played back in 2002.
It was fucking impressive for its time, you've got to put back thing in their context.

The idea of the afterlife school with rebels that refuse their death, the fact that the hero was the one who saved the girl by giving his organs, and the fact she wasn't able to leave the school because she wanted to thank the person who gave him a heart, the mindblow when you understand the reason behind the name "Angel Beats", that could have been hands down the best VN of 2010. The retarded shadow crap and such was something necessary for the anime, but it probably would have been handled differently if it was a VN.

>> No.6156884

Well at least Key doesn't rip-off others.
Not like R07 that ripped off Kusari-Hime for Higurashi and Forest for Umineko, funny but Kusari-Hime and Forest are written by the same guy too, wonder if the next title will be a rip-off of Seven Bridge, or maybe Cannonball, it would be funny to see.

Nasu ripped off Kizuato for Tsukihime too, all these examples are common knowledge in Japan.

Kusarihime and Higurashi: small village, murders and loop, the composition is very similar.

Umineko and Forest: mystery vs fantasy, without love it can't be seen, battle between the "witch" and the main character/narrator, though the narrator "fall for" the witch by the end, meta concepts everywhere, fictions within fictions, growing different personalities within one person, even the true meaning of magic and I'm missing lots of things.
Beatrice is a mix of Black Alice and Amamori.

If you don't mind clearing up something for me? What was Kako and Amenomori's actual relation? Was she her child, taken away from her parents and covered up with the "abortion"? Was she a part of Amamori? Was she just a different person altogether and became Amenomori's "child" by listening to Akeru's Original Story? Is it open to interpretation?

The art in Rewrite and LB is great. Not sure what the issue is. Nor do I think their games are the same. You have to keep in mind the genre most of their games fall under would be nakige. It's like complaining that a horror movie is trying to scare you.

To be honest I'm often wondering about the same thing, the writing is bad and the pacing is horrid, I'd be surprised if someone could read this for more than two hours straight without falling asleep.
The heroines are always the same shit in every goddamn game as is the plot device behind the whole game, either MAGIC or FATE.
