So the time is near, the time is so very close to all of us being watched. Well I for one don’t like it. I know you don’t either. The Internet is a player in the Corporate Conglomerate, but we are still the people. ACTA won’t even face a United States government vote. But we are still people of this world and we make it our own. If the ACTA passes, there is one thing to do. Boycott, but what should we boycott? Simple answer, the Internet itself, forcing much of the Internet to loose out on as much money as it can. I propose that once each week from the day the ACTA goes into action and henceforth, we shall make it known to the Internet that we do not want anything to do with the direction the Internet is heading. So if you want to make your voice heard, it is time to act. Join me, boycott the internet in it’s entirity untill the major corporations force our governments to at least pass a vote on ACTA. Share the word /vp/

Basically, it does nothing. Politicians come up with some bullshit law that no one can enforce so fuck corporate cock and said corporations pay them more money with lobbyists. Meanwhile real problems are not solved because it won't help the politicians get re-elected/richer.

Privacy? None.
Got porn? Jail time.

Accidentally see CP? JAIL TIME.
Pirate programs/music? Jail time.

Your electronics can be taken from you at any time while traveling if they feel you are doing illegal things.

Enjoy having your rights and freedom raped.

No, I don't have ADHD, I just don't want to read pages and pages of legal terms. I just wanted the gist of what ACTA was, not the entire law summed up in a paragraph. Not that hard.

But anyway, doesn't practically EVERYONE end up with pirated music on their computer one way or another? I fail to see how this will work.

Are they going to track what you upload/download/browse and send cops to your house if they think it's illegal?

I'm sort of beginning to wish I still lived in ignorance of this whole thing.

Silly American laws. Who the fuck cares.
I'll still pirate the shit out of everything just like I have.

Main OS - Pirated
Programs on PC - Pirated
Games on PC - Pirated
Games on DS - Pirated
Games on PS3 - Soon to be pirated if the hack works over a period of 6 months
Laws against piracy in Croaita ? - Not even enforced in the business sector let alone private people. Like just the other day I read 48% of our businesses have illegal windows copies on them.

If you examine how effective anti-pirating measures have been in the past, it's a pretty safe bet that nothing's going to happen unless you do something stupid.

I think maybe it's possible from this that Pirate Bay will go down for good (or not, they just need to go get hosted in a country that didn't sign onto the ACTA agreemnt, which is almost more like an international anti counterfeit/pirate treaty). It is logistically impossible to go track down every pirate out there and so they are more likely than not just going to go after the major sources and work from there.

Everything in ACTA is so grandiose it'll never happen like they envision. Shit's just too expensive and time consuming... eventually, everything will be encrypted anyway, which'll make looking for "illegal" files/internet activity useless and we'll all be right back to square-one. They can't win.

This law clearly violates the privacy of anyone living in a country in which it is instated. I don't understand why they're even considering it.
Yes, piracy is an issue, but do they really think they can go around arresting anyone and everyone who has a few downloaded songs on their computer?

>Silly American laws. Who the fuck cares.

It's NOT an american law, it is an international treaty. As such, it takes precedence over court precedents. Read the nicely written article at Wikipedia. Unlike DMCA which is reactive, parts of ACTA are pro-active in that they may take place BEFORE a violation has occurred once "trouble spots" have been identified. As for non-treaty nations, sure, you can still host pirate stuff there, but once an ISP or set of addresses with a pirate (dynamic IP) on them is identified, member nations will drop packets from those. This will indirectly compel that ISP to kick off the pirate user(s) in order to preserve internet access for its other legit customers because an ISP that is losing a lot of packets on the internet will be in poor competitive shape. There are MANY other aspects of ACTA of course.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACTA_treaty

ACTA was initially developed by the business-friendly Bush administration with industry lobbyist support officially sought as an integral source. It was then floated to Japan with most other major nations signing on such as canada, the EU, korea, etc. It is anticipated that that nations that did not sign on will be compelled to at least police their ISPs better because non-member country ISP with an identified pirate user(s) on it will have their packets dropped by all ACTA members (sort of like a great firewall for planet earth). You can remain independent of ACTA, but life will get harder and harder as more countries sign up and implement the "great firewall". Pretty soon, most of your international packets will be dropped simply because they will sooner or later have to transit thru a router that is controlled by an ACTA member.

>> No.6098753

>>6098724
No. They'll do it to a few people to make an example, and give everyone who cares the feel that something is being done. Nobody is going to waste the resources to enforce this and getting the ISPs to cooperate will be like pulling teeth. Even the corporations don't actually believe it will work. History has already proven that making things illegal does not make them go away. Especially when it's something like this which is especially difficult to enforce.

For the love of god. You cannot be arrested for pirating music/games/whatever.

Piracy is a CIVIL offense, not a criminal one. You can be sued, but you can't be thrown in jail. It's not theft.

Besides, I sort of doubt ACTA will pass, at least in its current form. Not if the EU is throwing it out.
