Anyway, one of my friends is obsessed with this 'game' and got me to play it. I'm only to the temple, but I have a question.
Why is it I only survive when I'm intentionally trying to kill myself to get the Tiger Dojos? I choose the "This is probably going to kill me." option, only to find out that I get through fine.

Not him, but I doubt you're estimating it right. I read so fast I have to have it on max speed for it to not be snail pacey, and I'm still pretty sure one route took around 10 hours. If I remember correctly, my first run of Fate route was 12 hours, although I did look at the weapon and status screens every now and then.

I don't buy that chart, it's not that the first days of Fate or UBW are really fun either... there is just stuff about the rules and similar scenes in Fate/UBW about... really nothing.

At least HF did argueably better with that stuff, as was explained quickly in one day (along with Kiritsugu true nature) and centered in Servants deaths, Mabo Tofu and the Shadow first appareance until Day 9.

The real turning down point in HF are days 11, 12, 13, with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. At least days 14, 15, 16 redeemed that.

For action I'd suggest Kikokugai http://vndb.org/v183 and that's all I can think of off the top of my head.
For comedy maybe Cross Channel (http://vndb.org/v66)) and Muv Luv (http://vndb.org/v93).). To note though both of these have very serious segments though, and Muv Luv experiences a very large direction shift in it's second half.
