The devs have stated that the story mode is 15-20 hours long, and there's more stuff to do even after the story is done. Also there's extra modes after you complete everything, including the infinite mode that goes on forever.

Most new games are only 8-13 hours long and cast FAR more than $18. Oh and they have overpriced DLC on top of that full price tag as well.

She absolutely loves what she does, and she drops sayings like “Yatta!” constantly, but just translating it “straight” doesn’t really get her voice across properly. Mighty fine game ye gots thar...

>> No.6083729

Its pretty simple guys. Your choices are thus:

Buy the game:
- More incentive for doujin game makers translate their stuff.
- Doujin game makers get a new market and more money, funding not only more translations, but more original games by those groups as well, potentially saving dying groups.

Pirating/Not Buying:
- You show that the western market isn't worth the time.
- Doujin groups don't translate their stuff
- We have to wait months to years for a game/VN translation, even if the game is very popular.
- Original company might even C&D translation efforts, meaning you NEVER get a translated version.
- Original company might even die off.

Sure hope you know Japanese, pirate-fags.

It's 20 bucks for a (as far as I can tell) passable to good translation of a good game. Standard price for games in the US is 40 - 60, and they usually end up disappointing horribly. I pirated this game way back when it was first released, and you know what? I'm going to be buying it. I showed it to two of my friends who had never even seen it before and generally hate doujin games. And you know what? They are buying it. Thats kind of how capitalism works. There's a saying you know: "Vote with your money". Do you really want to be voting no to official translations of doujin games? Isn't that what we've been wanting for the last fucking decade?

I mean fuck, I pirate games too, but only when I can't legitimately get the fucking thing in english.

Whoopty-do. Most of it is shit. I can't WAIT to have more shitty games come over.

>Doujin game makers get a new market and more money, funding not only more translations, but more original games by those groups as well, potentially saving dying groups.
Those games are developed to be sold at Comiket and the like. Our buying them has no bearing whatsoever on the makers.

>You show that the western market isn't worth the time.
The games are made by and for Japanese. The western market cares more about havign them than they do about exporting them, and in a lot of cases they can't have and don't want their games to be exported where they can be judged by foreigners with different laws.

>Doujin groups don't translate their stuff
They wouldn't anyway until some westerner got interested, probably by having pirated it to begin with since there's no way to know about it otherwise.

>We have to wait months to years for a game/VN translation, even if the game is very popular.
And when it's done, it has no censorship and loli routes intact.

>Original company might even C&D translation efforts, meaning you NEVER get a translated version.
>implying they can't translate it more secretly

>Original company might even die off.
You can't kill off a group of people doing it primarily for the fun, only reduce it to its core components. Making games is not their day job.

Face it you the only reason you care about Recettear is because it's on your favorite Disney DRM distrubution platform called Steam. It's quite a shame.

Pirate a game first, unless you absolutely can't. If you hated it, you would never have spent the money on it. If you don't like it but don't outright hate it, you probably won't finish it, so it's essentially as if you just played a trial? If you loved it, then you should probably attempt to buy it, if for the simple fact of having a hard copy.

It's not about supporting the developers, because most developers will not give a shit about a single customer, or even twenty (usually). For me, it's having the game, or book, or whatever there in my hands, and knowing that I physically own something I really liked.

But, I'd like to add that as an aspiring writer who hopes to have work published one day, it's not about getting money. It's about having people experience and enjoy my work. I don't care if you downloaded a .txt or bought a hardback collector's edition, I just want to know if you thought it was a good read.

Except unlike the world of literature, creating games takes endless hours of labour from dozens of people. They need to pay coders, artists, lawyers, advertisers, licencing fees and lots of other crap. People don't work for free in this industry and nor can they afford to work two jobs at once because PC gaming is not exactly profitable to do it full time unless you're with a big company. Indie developers are doing what they do because they love games - the same as a writer - but whereas a writer can any job and write on the side, games require a team of people, dedication and a lot of cash to risk.

The reason many people defend Steam when it comes to DRM is because it's hardly noticeable. Remember Starforce (Trackmania)? Ubisoft's DRM? EA limited installs? Those where horrible DRM that fucked legit consumers. The only thing that Steam requires is that you install it and that you activate the game once after installing (which requires a internet connection, and for a game that you are buying DIGITALLY this is hardly an issue). After that you don't need to keep the PC connected to the internet, in fact if you want to keep it logged off and install it on another computer you can withiut problems. And small games like Racettear will most likely have an exe that can be launched without Steam, so after buying and installing you don't even need it to launch the game again.

You own the game. Steam sends you a receipt and all, if you are really that worried print it. If Steam goes down and it's not a Valve game you can demand the game from the original studio and they will have to comply, if the don't you can easily press charges.

But that is not going to happen unless there is a major even that will put Steam out of business, like a third world war.
