Kanjidicks.

I finished all kanji with a 3 star or higher rating yesterday. Feels good man.

Hey, at least it's not Heisig.

Holy shit this all sounds awesome!
>Don't be fooled by my hype, though: even with my awesome system of jaw-dropping logic, kanji is still a motherfucker. You'll study 12 months and still not be able to read a newspaper. You'll contend with maddening exceptions, inconsistencies, kanji that mean one thing by themselves, another thing when paired with a second kanji, and nothing at all when converted into a radical.
Fucking Japanese.

Good point.

Can anyone recommend anything other than kanji? Grammar, etc.

Assuming you want to read Japanese as your primary goal that's about it except for words and phrases that are written in hiragana only. Assuming you want to read Japanese as your primary goal.

smart.fm can be a good way to pick up vocab

That would depend on how often they occur.

Honestly, learning Japanese for /jp/ use (VNs, etc) mixed with basic contemporary conversation is fine with me. I'm not looking to be able to read complex books on law, etc.

So, why does /jp/ hate Heisig?

Mostly because it's dull as hell. The method isn't that farfetched, but it's soul-crushing to try to go through that book. His mnemonics are awful, his keywords give way too little away and are sometimes completely off, and it's a waste of time to study all the 2000 on equal priority, since you'll want to learn the most common ones first so you can read simple manga and eroge as quickly as possible.

They don't give it enough time? I don't know.

I hated it during the first couple months too, but it was easy mode after that. Also his stories are shit.

eroge everyday

No, seriously, it's good. No trolling, /jp/ has recommended kanjidicks as a legitimate kanji learning site.

If you read his introductions and shit, he teaches you in a very logical way.

>If you read his introductions and shit, he teaches you in a very logical way.
True, but the mnemonics sound very Heisig, though I suppose I could skip over those.

I'm not too fond of the rating system either. e.g. 近親相姦 = zero stars.

>> No.6080737

Heisig worked for me, as in past tense. It already worked. If it didn't work for you then sucks to be you.

Genki teaches you shit like "sensee" and "-masu stem". If you're reading Genki and not much else, you're fucked.

>> No.6080781

Kanji Dicks, then Tae Kim, then a ton of reading. Chat up your friendly local Japanese folks if you want it for anything besides eroge.
