Hey /touhou/, I have a question.

I've just started the process of making a VN. What would /jp/ suggest in terms of a visual novel platform?

I plan on having mostly standard stuff. Music, art, text. Preferably something simple but customizable to some extent, since none of us know coding. Thanks in advance.

Pic unrelated.

I know you might be skeptical, but I can say that we have lots of exp in art. Pretty much nothing that has been released is an acceptable standard for us, yet.

If you don't want to help then I guess it can't be helped.

Concentrate on writing first and code it up later.

That's a good idea. I just wanted to very briefly familiarize myself with the software, in case it might have some effect on the content in some way that I might not be familiar with yet.

>>6052300
I know you want to believe that, but trying to drag people down is kinda pointless.

It's pretty hard to make a VN by yourself with great art + great writing that manages to avoid cliches / irritating patterns. Oftentimes a game has fucking awesome art but fucking shit story. Really the writing is almost more important than the art, if you're just looking for an excuse to draw some ero scenes with descriptive text then you're not going to make any impact.

If you end up writing something truly intriguing though (like another Umineko) then you might have a shot, at least among English speakers. I don't think Japanese would be very willing to "adopt" it just as similarly as they reject Korean stuff, but they might at least take a curious look at it (for example, I think KS has been briefly mentioned a scant few times on futaba).

Thanks for the reply. I'll keep that in mind.

Well, since nobody appears to have preferences or experience with VN software, I'll sage and look into it myself.

Use Ren'Py. Have the lead writer familiarize himself with the scripting system.

You're joking, right ?

Seconding renpy.
There are also some C# engines I think, but I can't be assed to look for them now. The thing is, renpy works with python, which is an easy language so you can concentrate on art, story, and music.

Godspeed.

huh. how's that working out for ya, captcha?

I just browsed the Renpy game archive.

Holy Crap!

I had no idea there exists so many amateur visual novels.

It's like a goddamn ocean of them!

Have any of them ever gone pro? Turned a profit???

One guy on there does sell his VNs commerically. I guess it's profitable for him since he keeps on creating them. He has nice artwork.

Ask on their forum or something.
