Without REM sleep, your neurons stop regenerating. This causes the brain to shut down, lobe by lobe. You're nearly incapable of rational thought after five days, and after ten... you'd likely be dead.

What's your personal best when it comes to sleep deprivation? I can only manage three days or so.

>> No.6049064

6 hours

>> No.6049078

No, that is the old belief. More recent studies proved that you don't need REM sleep to recharge yourself, you actually need the deep sleep.

>>6049078

A semantic difference. What was once called REM sleep alone has been further divided into the current categories of "deep" sleep.

I can't go without sleep for long, after 24 hours i really start to suffer.

>> No.6049200

I've heard after the 72 hour mark, give or take of course, that you start hallucinating.

It's laughable when I hear people say that you don't "need" sleep or wont die without sleep.
Even if you wouldn't actually die from severe sleep deprivation you would eventually turn into a raving lunatic as you lose all connection with reality..

This is what I desire.

No, we're actually talking the old definition, that is the long period where there is nearly no brain activity.

Sorry, but you can't get rested on just a few minutes of the first phases of sleep. You need the long deep sleep phase.

You can die from too little sleep. In fact, if you stay awake for anywhere near the time you mentioned and then go to sleep for a long time, there's a good chance you'll go into a coma.

>> No.6049240

There was once a show done on a man who couldn't sleep. A part of his brain died and it was no longer possible. He lasted six months and then died. For the latter half he was basically retarded

So, fatal familial insomnia: brain damage edition.

>> No.6049281

I've only gotten 38 hours, but I could have stayed longer if I was on a computer or something.

>> No.6049284

what are you guys? kids?
I've stayed up 4 days straight a few quarters ago. then took a finals test, which I aced. Then I drove home and ate and went to sleep (classmates where having a celebration outing, but i was sleepy).

Not sleeping can't kill you, unless you're a giant pussy or genetically inferior.

>> No.6049294

>>6049284
Well, you can't kill any braincells when there's nothing there.

38 hours here as well. Funnily enough, most of the last five hours of that was spent in Amsterdam airport.

>> No.6049303

>>6049218
How big is a good chance? It can't be that large since people stay up 72 hours all the time.

Excuse the off-topic, but what anime is this from ? I think it is from the same one as the animated 'Haters gonna hate' gif but I never got his name...

>> No.6049306

12 days without sleep, that was pretty harsh.

>> No.6049307

I'm not entirely sure, but I think it's from cromartie high school.

Something like 48 hours, probably, a pretty long time ago when I was playing video games with friends.
I dont really like depriving myself, it'll start feeling pretty bad pretty soon for me.

>> No.6049318

I have gone two days max. It's fun, but requires willpower to achieve anything that day and the day after.
