If you were offered to be a fairy in Gensokyo, would you take it? Keep in mind the following:

1. You'll be essentially immortal and revive about half a day later should you die.
2. Initial reactions from both humans and youkai may be hostile, since fairies are renowned thieves and pranksters. Even if you prove you're harmless, they won't really care about you since you're just a fairy, unless you join Orin's pretend zombie troupe or something. If there's an incident going on, expect to be shot down several times.
3. Due to your new body, you'll be more excitable. Bitter and sour things will also be almost inedible while you will develop a taste for sweets.
4. Your ability is guaranteed to be less than useful. Even if you embody a strong aspect of nature, your control of it will be puny (even Cirno, who has a ridiculously good portfolio and is amongst the most battle-hardened fairies, is only a moderate threat. )
5. No technology whatsoever. You cannot obtain what little passes from the Border unless you steal it or find it by sheer luck. Expect to be hunted down in both cases (if a fairy has an interesting item, she certainly found or stole it, so it's totally okay to beat her and take her stuff. )
6. You'll have no house, so you'll have to endure the elements until you build one. You'll also have to gather food, cook and clean for yourself. In fact, you need to be entirely self-sufficient, unless you strike a partnership with other fairies.
7. No relationships unless you can identify another Anonymous turned into a fairy and seduce her. You're a fairy. You don't even pass for a person in Gensokyo. Any attempts at romance will get you laughed at.

Of course, I'd accept without a second thought. It'd be Harvest Moon in Gensokyo, except you wouldn't even start with a house and farm, advancing to basic agriculture in the middle of a forest, out of scraps.

There was Sakuya in 6, who then reappeared in 7 8 9 and 9.5. Nobody who is stated to have been "killed" is ever really treated as dead after the fact.

In bits and pieces of dialogue the words "killed" or "exterminated" are used frequently in most games, but of course are never serious. PC-98 followed the same pattern; randomly using such words but not giving reactions appropriate to a situation where a life just ended - 100% chance it wasn't serious.

Okay... here's my thought for harvest moon with Touhou fairies:

1: It is like Elona, but more cruel. It wouldn't REALLY be cruel, you just flop out and respawn like it's quake. But you will be beaten by nearly everything you know of at one point or another.

2: You start out with absolutely_nothing. It's like Terminator 2, you spawn naked on the ground in the rain and you need to steal your first pair of clothing.

3: Nearly everything you have, especially in the beginning of your adventure, will come from theft. Humans will be eager to punish you, they'll be stronger than you, and they will have zero hesitation to harming you because they know you're a fairy.

4: Power in nature doesn't come naturally to you, you need to slowly earn it over time like a martial artist earning impressive expertise. You will also be left defenseless against nature and the seasons, you will be left suffering unless you work hard to shelter yourself.

5: The object of the game is simply to better your life; stop getting killed so much, have a place to live with food to eat, find love from other fairies and tolerance from humans. The game would be an open-ended sandbox but objectively 'end' when the player is no longer in perpetual struggle and suffering.

I've already modded DF extensively to the point of making it into a complete switchoff.

I actually intended to make my own total conversion mod and publishing it, but then DF2010 came out which changed major things in ways I wasn't really motivated to continue working on. On top of that, my heat sink got damaged so I can't play DF anymore or else my CPU overheats and shuts off.

The game mechanics could be an absolutely generic RPG/VN or simply a redecoration of any existing game which allows modding. Writing a novel is like constructing a house. You start with a blueprint that tells you what goes where (concept, beginning, middle, end) and then lay down a foundation. You erect a structural frame on top of the foundation, building from the inside out rather than from front to back. You build the innermost parts of the whole structure, then work your way out doing the entire project one layer at a time.

After the whole project is deemed structurally sound, then and only then do you begin putting on the paint ceiling and flooring.

Anyone who stares at you blankly for more than 1 second or breaks out into random filler-jargon to describe how writing works; their process of writing is to type "chapter one" at the top of the page then wait for words to come out.

I do craft work, it's not 'my' music. I probably have old projects from college somewhere but meh.

Making music is easy though, all you need is:

Software:
1: A sequencing program, all kinds of free ones out there. The app which keeps track of your notes.
2: A softsynth, which reads your notes and produces sound. Again, plenty of free ones out there for the googling.
3: A sound editor - audacity works fine and it's free.

Knowledge:
1: Know how to read the notes on sheet music and find the notes on a keyboard. Takes 1 hour to pick up, steady practice will build reflex-level familiarity. http://www.musictheory.net/
2: Know the starter basics of organizing sound into measures and sequences. Make 8 measures of notes which go someplace then go back to the start, then make another one, then repeat the first one. Boom, a song is born.
3: Read up on how chords and harmony work. Some combinations of notes sound good together, some sound painful on the brain.

The rest is just experience and effort. I'd be willing to work for free on an open source game if I had a suitable project I felt was going someplace, but this is the last place I'd be looking for such a thing because you're all autistic - sorry.

The style I outlined is the professional style, it's what formal training will teach you.

The less you plan, the more you drift away from the straight-and-narrow path. You start repeating things, leaving things out, adding things in which don't fit, running into doldrums, 99% of the time it makes a story trite and dull simply because fewer opportunities for creative effort were exploited.

Here's another way to put it: amateur-style writing makes one pass over a story, while professional-style writing makes 5~12 passes. It basically means trying harder and sticking to a rigid plan of efficient work.
