£15 a month got me a Samsung Galaxy Portal, 300 minutes, unlimited internet, and unlimited texts. Granted, the phone isn't the best Android phone out there, but I'm allowed to upgrade my phone for free once my contract runs out. Alternatively I can buy a new one myself, but I'm more than happy with the phone I have.

This was an upgrade from a Nokia 5210 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_5210)) which could literally only make calls. Messaging was horrible on that old thing (it slowed to a halt if you wrote a longish (~250 character) text) but you could throw it against a wall as hard as you like and the only thing it would do is bounce back and hit you in the face.
