Yep, same guy. He's pretty awesome.

He also produced all of MEG's recent stuff and Ami Suzuki's Supreme Show album, and he has a bunch of side projects on his contemode label. He's a busy guy, and almost everything he touches seems to turns to gold. HIGHLY recommended.

It could be because they're one of the few idol groups who assembled themselves, instead of being created at the whim of some producer, but they definitely have something unique. Their group dynamic is awesome. The fact that they can actually sing, dance well, and are adorable doesn't hurt.

The decision to cover them in synth and Autotune was undoubtedly made by Nakata (hunt down their first two singles if you can... you'll be amazed) but he definitely took them in an amazing creative direction and I'm glad it took off for them.

I knew there was a Stand in Jojo called that, but I wasn't aware it was a Japanese musician. Nakata said in an interview that the Chocolate Disco Stand was a huge honor to him, because the mangaka names so few Stands after Japanese acts.

Gonna check him out now, especially if he also does electro.

I remember first hearing Perfume in that "Inryoku" flash video that kept getting posted on /f/ and completely falling in love with their sound.

That was far before they were popular in Japan by the way.

I actually got into Perfume around the same time - that was in 2004, back before their major label debut. Their first three singles with Nakata were on an indie label.

I still love the cover for that single (Vitamin Drop), even though Nocchi is nearly unrecognizable.
