In retrospect looking at the points you made your reasons for not liking the US are very nitpicky, bringing up bands, cable channels, and an actress, as if there were no television programs or actors in Japan which you do not like. You say nothing of the things you don't like about Japan or even really compare the two countries at the good points. Your list seems very biased to me.

For one, it was a dual-pronged approach. I half assume you made this thread because you don't like Japanese culture; I was pointing out that you yourself are extremely selective/tunnel-visioning your own culture and fail to see that there are just as many fouls (if not more) coming out of the U.S than Japan. I didn't explicitly explain this partly because not enough text space, partly because I was hoping you were bright enough to notice the comparison types.

Second, you took the "we'll get better/they'll get worse" approach, which is nothing more than speculation and presents zero leverage against real statistics. You actually admitted that many of my points were valid though, or attempted to dull the truth by pulling up red-herrings or speculation, and so you can't really claim much victory here at all.

Also on that, Japan is set for decline, but so is the U.S, and a far worse one it will get.. upcoming religious strife between Christians/Muslims (guaranteed to sour the Middle East and US for 50+ more years due to people blinded by "faith").. plus the U.S's debt and unemployment problem is far worse than Japan's + Japan is not going to have to compete head-to-head with China, who is already laying down the keels of its first carrier and seeks to eventually expel the US from Asia and render its blue-water navy as a stoppable force.

Lastly and perhaps most importantly, I myself am American. Seeing the situation we are in, myself (and any other intellectuals) simply MUST catch ourselves up-to-date with the rest of the world... where we stand in various statistics, what we are doing, where we are going, and most importantly knowing what we are up against and where to aim our improvements.

Perhaps you should think from a more globally competitive approach rather than regional... Get fit, get better-educated, don't be a rude slob, don't be arrogant and condescending towards other nationalities. We no longer ourselves stand on much of any high ground compared to other first-world countries, besides things totally out of our control: a government that cares more about beating the other party's vote than getting shit done, a military which gets more funding than the rest of the armies of the Earth combined, and shrewd businessmen ripping off millions in sweat-shops in India, China etc making 46 cents an hour so that we can buy socks at Wal-Mart for a dollar. That's what we do and how we're operating, and it's not much to be proud of from any sane human's point of view. So kindly fuck off and re-evaluate your priorities.

Seeing how a shitty North Korean sub managed to blow up a state-of-the-art US destroyer and get away with it, no, we're not that much better. Other nations are already operating remote aircraft drones, Russia's PAK-FA is a resounding answer to the F-22 and is already undergoing testing; we only have like 20 B-2s and other nations are also developing stealth craft ... fyi, in Kosovo, an F-117 was downed, and most of it was salvaged by Russians. They really do have stealth; they are simply wise to shut up about it unless they'd need to use it.

Also the most recently-updated Fulcrums and Flankers are at least as good as F/A-18s, F-15s and better than F-16s. China and India operate them. We're not so great anymore besides bigger carriers and nuclear subs, both of which China is working on. We'll be able to handle China in a non-nuclear conflict for another 20 years tops, after that things may start to change if our economy keeps on sucking and our quality of life gets worse.
