What exactly does Battler plan to achieve by proving magic doesn't exist, if his family's dead anyway?

I'm reading the VNs at the moment (Episode 1 right now), so I'll be satisfied if someone just tells me whether on not these things are actually explained in the 7 episodes currently released.
