Why don't you switch to 3D Max? It's more intuitive and probably you will learn much faster. I have been only around 2 months with it and I can do magic with it, even being the worst at it. Even if you have to pay a little bit... or you can get it free, you know...

I'm going to stick with it for now. Blender's more than capable of basic subdivision modelling at least. I'll make a start on the lambda model next.
