They could have at least kept the characters/voices from the game, and invent some bullshit about music powering up the mechs against space aliens that invaded earth and want to remove all music
But I think it's better than no anime at all (except the OVAs)

Xenoglossia was awful, but for all I know, the source material is awful as well.
Not like we'll ever be able to find out, since it's not ever going to be translated.
