Well marriage used to be a way to control a women's sexual life -- back in the days of arranged marriages and such. Society tends to be more strict about female sexuality than male sexuality specifically because society has always wanted to control who women have sex with. The reason is probably because when a woman has a child, her entire family is stuck with that burden -- you dont want your daughter having sex with some jackass who's just going to leave afterwards. It'll probably surprise you to hear me say this, but girls have just as many problems with mating as we do.
