This is usually what happens with doll owners. You'd bring home your new, perfectly adorable wife/daughter and would be content with her until you notice you're getting shorter everyday. I'm curious about this myself. I've heard the figure of $600-1000 quoted before, but I have no idea where it comes from. Looking at the Volks USA online store, it looks like you might be able to get a DD for ~$400 without much trouble. About $250 for the body, $50 for the head, and another $100 for clothes, eyes, etc. I don't know if you'd need anything else, though. I'm just as naive as you. :)

As I said earlier, I might visit Volks' store in LA when I visit in a few weeks. I'm super shy about it though. It seems like a 26 year old male visiting the store isn't exactly the normal demographic. I wish someone from here had been there and could tell me about it.

The higher priced DDs are usually licensed characters (ie. Saber, who goes for much more than $1000 these days, I believe). You can get a generic body/head/wig for about what you're quoting, though, yeah.

Okay, that was all I had from the convention. I got her a new outfit and wig (the wig isn't in this picture). Apparently the Volks president was there at the convention and Adelaide caught his attention because of her size. He told my mom that the Mini Dollfies were rare in the states. Adelaide came with a faceup since she was a limited edition character model. However I believe you have to get special makeup for them, something that won't come off. Basically you're actually painting their face so you don't want regular makeup I'm guessing.
As for the nipples... there's a possibility that's aftermarket, mine didn't come with that and when I look at extra bodies on Volks they're plain.
As far as faces go, it all depends upon what you like. Just look around, I personally don't like some of the regular dollfie faces but a good number of them are pretty. Basically just look around. I did a lot of research before I committed to buying mine.
