Also have any of you guys seen weapons with great attributes, but one massively horrible one? I'm wondering if I should get this machine gun or not for its magic damage and +shield skill. But -30 learning? That's just rough. I can give her a Shena's panty for it which is possibly one of the easiest artifacts to get repeatedly and I live next to Palmia. Should I get it?

>Also have any of you guys seen weapons with great attributes, but one massively horrible one?

Yes. It's very much rage-worthy.

>I'm wondering if I should get this machine gun or not for its magic damage and +shield skill. But -30 learning? That's just rough.

Well, it is nice, but that depends entirely on whether you need your learning or not.

>I can give her a Shena's panty for it which is possibly one of the easiest artifacts to get repeatedly and I live next to Palmia. Should I get it?

Get it. You can always give it to a pet.

Yeah I've seen gears that are plain retarded. I remember there was this bow that had 2d30+40 or so, ### performance, but it was doomed, random teleport, decrease perception by like 15, and decrease hit rate by 50.

So far, I'm liking this sword. I hope it doesn't start sucking blood soon

Oh, and you're evil! EVIL!
I won't go evil until I have enough things to manage it. Like enough lost wallets and suitcases saved up to go back to neutral, and a supply of disguise kits.

It's not easy being evil, though there are benefits. In fact, I might kill a wandering merchant if they're selling a nice item for a ridiculous amount of gold.

So that upload of moongates and custom npcs, where do I put that, and how do I get those npcs in my party?

Just messing around a bit before I go with a actual character, only thing on my to-do list in-game is that "story" quest which I probably won't do, and that pokemon like side quest which is annoying since all monsters die (or just between dying and not being catchable) before I lower their health. Any tips, and what's the difference in 1.16 and the beta? Heard it was more of a grindfest in the latter.

>> No.5881320

>>5881268

This isn't a mud. This is a rogue-like with expanded depth and an open world. This lacks the basic components of a mud. Mainly, the "dungeon" you use is local only and exclusive. Furthermore, the game itself doesn't operate like most muds. It's a rogue-like. If you don't know what that means, google NetHack and play it.

I haven't paid tax and is at -100 karma for the past 16 months or so. I can literally run into any town, have all the guards chase after me while I go on with my business (like using the inn for cheap food or wizard for identify) without them making a dent on either me, my waifu or my adopted daughter. I can bash anyone I want, kill anyone I want in town (except the dweller of vanity; ragnarok is still out of my league), eat cats and guards for lawl.

I also hunt adventurers, a third of the adventurers in my game are foe against me, and there's always a few guys in the hospital. I don't really have anything I need to buy from town, as my home have three magic good shopkeeper and one general good shopkeeper to sell pretty much anything I need. It's good to be evil.

Sadako = Girl of Dark Water.

Vanity WIthin = 『虚空を這いずっていた者』(Whom dwelt in the vanity)

Twin Belles = twins bell

Yukata/Summer White Wolf and Sadako are 5 levels higher then the regular versions, so they have higher stats.

Included the sprites for Summer and Yukata White Wolf (Sadako has no Yukata version), they are exactly the same stat wise.

Twin Belles and Tadano are the same, both are bells (silver/gold).

No, don't.

Fairies can achieve great equipment through the same means as anyone else: blessed change material scrolls.

There are ultralight materials which can bring large equipment down to fairy-ready weight. Just save your money, buy as many change material scrolls as you can afford (magic shop,) then look for a bottle of water. When you find one, drop it on your god's altar and it will become blessed. Finally, mix it with a stack of scrolls and the entire stack becomes blessed.

With these scrolls you can turn large/valuable gear into other versions that are not only far more powerful but much lighter as well. A fairy can equip a breastplate and claymore that will both have better stats than anything you'll see in shops.

In the "user" folder in the "elona" folder, just the .npc files tho.
It will cause them to appear randomly in areas, dungeons, quests, Slave Trader, using Scroll of Ally.

The game preforms a <user> check then selects one of the files at random, if you want a specific pet, suggest that you remove all other files first.
Removing the files from the user folder stops them from spawning but does not remove the pets you already have, it does however convert them to some generic type NPC apperance with the name "a garbage" until the files are put back in. When the files are back in they will look as they were before, only the name will stay the same which can be changed using the interact option from the dial menu.

Since the game treats all Moongate Summons (that's what these are) as a <user> monster unless they are actually present within the game (figurines and corpses will be listed as <user>). You can capture one with a monster ball, it will be listed as "Monster Ball <user>", then switch out the files to get the specific one you want.

You must restart the game for the changes to take place, even after you remove the files.

They just do. Reading a book give you a few stock of that spell, so you have to read a lot of the same book to get a good stack of it. As a mage, you HAVE to join the mage guild to reserve spellbooks (gives you TONS of the same book), or you'll be running out of spells in no time. Mage isn't recommended for a new player or as first character, but they're possibly the most powerful once they got their spells very high level since they can pretty much one shot any boss.

Do you know D&D? Well, imagine the charges as the amount of memorized spells you have. When you run out of prepared spell stocks, you can no longer cast that spell. You must find a book and read it to regain spell stocks, but you only gain the stocks for the spell that the book is for. A Magic Dart book will restore Magic Dart stocks.

Just keep playing the game normally. By the time your fame gets high enough for you to encounter them, you can see then. If you're capable of not being killed by it and able to damage it then you're ready. If it looks like it will kill you before you can kill it, simply run and fight another day. Keep in mind there's more than one type of dragon though and that they get progressively stronger.

Well in the beta, stealing from adventurers and performer has been nerfed quite a bit so 1.16 for a while if you want to get decent performer first and choice steals off adventurers. You can always just port your save to 1.22, but you can't go down to 1.16.

The beta has Christmas in Noyel though. It's not that big an event, but there are quite a few shops open at the time. Notable things you can get there are soda which can restore stamina, upstairs and downstairs which you can use to create new floors in your home, and a free sandbag. There's also a souvenir vender too even if they are outrageously expensive. Also new year's gifts, but those are only good if you become really chummy with adventurers.

As for the items themselves...most of the scrolls are things not immediately useful, like vanish curse, enchant armor/weapon, incognito, material-changing and such.

The potions are mostly extras of Speed, Defender, Hero and more powerful healing ones, but I also stash cure corruption, mutation, cure mutation, evolution and some dyes.

I don't save spellbooks, unless they're Harvest. I can't even read them, but someday...instead, I'll save stuff like Books of Rachel, diaries to summon pets, and other miscellany.

All that equipment you see is {Godly}, with the occasional (Miracle) if the mods are good. They're separated by just "stuff/tradebait" (the big sqaure shaped cluster), petgear for whenever I decide to get a good one (the line), and stuff that's absurdly good (the few scattered pieces near the bottom) that I'll probably start using later. My lasergun is alive, and if it doesn't develop well before bloodsucking is added, I'll be forced to switch to the other one. The scythe down there is actually far better than what I'm using now, but my current one deals massive damage to undeads. I have another lasergun over there, that deals massive damage to GODS [#####+], but aside from that, isn't very remarkable.

I also have a bunch of material kits from Larna and the Festival of Jure. Good stuff, too, like Rubynus and Emerald. Think I got a diamond one over there too.

All this wealth and I'm still nowhere near my goal of taking on the chaos forts.. :(

I only have a Cozy House, and I've never seen stairs for sale anywhere. I'd upgrade to an Estate if the deed would ever show up, and I'm not particularly fond of castles (don't really like the way they look, and editting them is a pain)

Besides, if I used my house for item-storage, it'd be more than maxxed-out after I furnish it.

The dungeon costs next-to-nothing for upkeep, and holds a ridiculous amount of stuff. Besides wishing for stats or skills, there's not much else I can wish for anyway (I've gotten 4 wishes at this point, dungeon, happy bed, seven league boots, material kit [which turned out to be diamond])

speaking of, I find that Diamond material makes about the best weapons overall. It's fairly light, and it really jacks up both the damage AND the hit bonus. Adamantium is best for PV armor, and either Rubynus or Griffon Scale for DV armor. If you're a fairy, ignore all this and go for...I think Spirit Cloth is the strongest super-light material.

castles cost ridiculous amounts upfront and in upkeep costs.

something like 3m or more based on your negotiation, and upkeep is really expensive too, especially if you keep the NPCs. to be fair though, upkeep isn't a big deal if you can afford a castle, but the cost of the deed is huge.

i'd rather spend the money on more awesome scrolls/potions, material kits, or furniture

Staircases are sold at the Jure Festival. They're always sold at the Jure Festival from what I can tell. You never noticed the staircases?

If your home is a castle then there really is no need for a dungeon. The staircases make an extra floor. Which is entirely free of stuff and Castles have the same 400 item limit per floor like dungeons. Also you can get more shopkeepers due to higher servant limit. Since you only want an estate though then I guess you may want a dungeon.

Also who cares about upkeep. Taxes are a drop in the bucket when you've got a money making method. Also castle allows for maximum home rank and in turn better salary items.

You can get maximum home rank with an Estate or Cyber House too.

I prefer an estate because it looks better to me aesthetically, and makes more sense from a roleplayer's point of view. Owning a castle implies royalty or some other lordly status of a very high-class person. She's a farmer, not a ruler.

And yeah, I noticed the stairs, but they were too expensive for me at the time I did (literally the first time I went to Noyel near the start of this character's life) I'd forgotten about them since, but if they're always there, I'll have a look into it.

What good is melee damage/hit-rate if I can't even take a single hit/shot/spell from them? Chances are I'm not going to be able to one-shot any of them unless I grind far harder than I need to.

Besides, taking them on should feel like an epic battle instead of a complete pushover, and being able to dodge them or even absorb most of their damage through ridiculous PV sounds like more fun than killing them in a small handful of turns.

Although, none of my armor skills are increasing...heavy armor won't go up even though my armor-equips alone weigh something like 30s.

Does the type of armor matter, or just the weight class? Heavy Armor skill is stuck at 8.5xx and won't increase, Medium is stuck at 4.9xx, and Light is stuck at 4.1xx.

Shield raises if you're using a shield. However that gets tremendously harder when you get both evasion skills since greater evasion allows you to dodge criticals and in turn you won't be hit at all if they get good and they will if you try to train an armor skill while having them.

Getting statussed does suck, especially Dim. But for the most part I can tank my way through a lot of them.

I have immunity to confusion, paralysis, and sleep. I may as well also be immune to Silence as I'm not a spellcaster. Poison and Bleed aren't strong enough to kill me by themselves (and either can be healed by invoking a self-heal of some sort, potions, feat, or scroll/rod-based).

There's a few I'm afraid of, Dim is such a monster of a status, but I haven't encountered many monsters that inflict it yet. I know Quicklings and Silved-Eyed Witches can, and also kobolds but those are one-shot from 6 tiles away thanks to a laser gun anyway.

The only things that actually do hurt me quite a bit are spells; I'm lacking some essential resistances, but I'm well-protected against Sound (#####+) and Lightning (#####), with minor protection against Fire, Cold, Nerve and Magic (##). I have some small degree of resist to Dark and Mind, but it's so small there's not even a # for it. I got nothing against poison, nether, and chaos though, so a room full of Nether Hounds will just piss me right the fuck off. Luckily, those I can't resist are somewhat rare.

There are still others that I know of, but don't seem to have the files, there is one that looks like Reiz and is called "loli" I think. If anyone has files/pets not shown here please upload them, I'll update the list once there is enough. Include the words "Pet List" someone in your post so I can find them easily.

How to use the files?

Put them in the "user" folder in the "elona" folder, just the .npc and .eum(if there are any) files tho.

Start off by doing jobs on the job board. These boards are literally in every city. Stick mostly to Escort and Delivery quests, while avoiding "Beauty and the Beast"...at least until you've proven to yourself that you're capable in combat. Watch out for quests like 'Birthday!' and 'I want it' as you have to supply the item for these yourself.

These quests are essentially mandatory for all characters in the very beginning. They are a source of good money, some platinum, and other items.

Look carefully, though. Don't take a job in Vernis that has you running to Noyel with a deadline of 4 days, it's just not going to happen unless you're ultra-fast (200+ speed) and wearing seven-league boots.

After you've done a couple, you might ask yourself what you do with all these unidentified items? Don't just sell them, you'll make nothing.

You'll want to start by first identifying monster parts, like skin, bones, heart, blood, and such. The reason is, once you identify a single one of each type (skin, bone, heart, blood, etc), the shopkeepers will actually offer you money for all of them and you no longer have to identify them to sell them for cash.

>> No.5883818

>>5883744
Next, you'll want to start identifying Rods, Books, Potions, and Scrolls.

You'd do this simply to figure out what's what, but once you identify a book of magic missile, you'll know another book of magic missile even if its unidentified. It isn't imperative that you learn absolutely everything now, just do it as you come across them.

If you are not a magey-wizardy type, sell all spellbooks. They're worth quite a nice sum. I'd recommend saving Rods and Scrolls though, as they're useful even for non-wizards and you don't really have to train hard to use them (I could use rods of identify/slow/silence/etc even without having magic device). Scrolls can be read by just about everyone anyway.

After you get some stuff identified, buy yourself a rudimentary set of equipment from the shop, unless your starting gear happens to be really good. If you plan to be dodgy and evasive, stay away from heavy materials and focus of light equipment. Glass is a decent material for low-level starting armors (avoid glass weapons, though), as it boosts speed and adds some DV. Keep doing some jobs, and use the platinum coins you receive to start learning skills from trainers.

>> No.5883844

If you come across scrolls of oracle, don't make the mistake of reading them.

What they do is read you a text-file that's in your savegame folder "art.log". All this does is tell you which artifacts have been generated in your game, when they were generated, and where they were generated. But they'll sell to shopkeepers for 2000+ gold depending on their B/U/C status, and they make good tradebait to other adventurers.

Once you have a decent set of equipment, and if you're a combat-driven character, try diving into the Puppy Dungeon for a couple of floors and see how you do. You don't have to succeed here yet (it's a quest-related dungeon, and NPC in Vernis gives it to you), but try it out, and if you do okay, clear the place out and then leave the way you came in. Try not to starve to death. Watch out for kobolds and NPCs. Most NPCs aren't initially hostile to you, like "fallen soldier" or "little girl". Kobolds are the first "monster" that wield equipment, and they can shield-bash you, causing the "Dim" status. DIM STATUS FUCKS YOU UP REALLY BADLY, but you can cure it by healing HP any way you can.

You might die a few times, but don't get discouraged. Everyone dies.

Continue doing those quest-board jobs. You might get sick of them, so try out some low-level hunting ones, or Harvest Time jobs. Harvest Time jobs are actually quite good, but I recommend you go into them as unburdened as you can. They're good for training Will and Strength stats, as well as Gardening skill if you have it. Learn Weight Lifting skill in Yowyn as soon as you can.

>> No.5883854

As an alternative to all this stuff, you can just wizard-mode the game and have anything you want at little effort. I'd say try this out for a while to get the hang of how to do things and learn where the towns are all at.

I was thinking Sense Quality or something or Weight Lifting. This post has taken me 6 attempts to post due to captcha.

Yes, Sense quality can be particularly good, since it'll increase your chances of identifying an item passively without the use of a scroll or magic. Very useful in the long run, as most unidentified equipment you'll find will often wind up being worth less than what you paid to identify it.

>> No.5884314

>>5883792

Incidentally, I want it! quests usually involve you getting an item from another NPC in town. This can usually be done by either killing the NPC (They'll always drop the required quest item) or by trading them. The trade option is opened up with the target NPC as long as you have the quest active, and half the time it's for cheap things you can get off them just by trading junk like ores or rings.
During the quest, you can ask any guard for a general whereabouts for the target NPC, though this can be a bitch if they're wearing a cursed item and teleporting all over the place. Similarly if the NPC who gave you the quest has a similar problem. Even worse though because the guards don't direct you to where the guy you got XXX's shit for.

These quests can be a good source of equipment if you get a quest to get a guard's item. As they're willing to trade ANYTHING they have on them, not just the quest item they wanted. So you can trade the guard for his sword, armor etc (They can often have things like magic hats or gyphon scale material equipment) and often you can get many of these just with a few shitty engagement rings or oracle scrolls.

A word of warning though. If the NPC wants another NPC's food item, if the food is rotten or cursed you'd better either find a replacement or get the hell out of there before he finishes eating. Cursed/rotten food can often kill many NPCs, (higher leveled NPCs like guards and shopkeepers are more resistant) and you will get a hefty penalty to your karma if they die of food poisoning. Thankfully, if you get out of town before they finish, you can come back in, and they'll finish eating up and probably destroying their guts with no penalty to you.

Life's basically your base HP stat, affecting your total hp the most. Most races have around 100 life. Weaker creatures have less, like fairies only have around 40, and bells only have 1.

It's somewhat difficult to raise too. 5 per level in the aesthetic feat, and rubynus (items give 3 per item) is the only reliable ways to raise it. There is hero cheese and the odd chance something will be enchanted with a life bonus, but unlikely.

Should I replace it with either of these two, or just keep going on and levelling it up further?

Both of the other guns have two pages of mods, for what you can't see, I'll list them here:

{Robber Snowfall}
-It enhances your memory (##)
-It grants resistance to darkness (#)
-It protects you from cursing words (#)

<Silly Reminiscense>
-It negates the effect of poison
-It negates the effect of blindness
-It prevents you from teleporting

So far, I have none of those immunities the Miracle-level gun provides, but I'll also be suffering from Darkness-based attacks, as without the resistance from the other, I'll have only #-level.

I think most of the information in http://elona.wikia.com/wiki/Beginner%27s_Guide is still valid. Escort quests are generally the easiest way to make money early on and you should get a rod of teleport at some time as a reward, which you can use to escape from bandits. Museums are not bad to have but they don't make a ton of money in my experience (unless you have high rank cards/figures, but at that point you should have money from other sources). Personally i've had good luck with gardening/harvest time quests, Yowyn always has several and they're relatively easy to do if you have the right skillset. If you don't, you can take the quests and build your skills while losing fame, there shouldn't be any karma loss.

Funny, I can manage 500 PV and 169 DV if I solely focus on PV and that's only around 25 stone for me. I can only get the protection die you get if I equip a crossbow and bolt that are so heavy they bring me to 38 equipment weight.

I'm imagining you don't bless and enchant your stuff that much. I have no diamond or adamantium armor, but I can still get better PV then you, along with better DV though I'm equipping two shields, but that's okay with me since I'm a ranged fighter. You can get to +6 on each piece of armor. Every +1(blessed is another +1) is about 2-3 more PV. So that means +7 for a fully enchanted and blessed armor. Assuming the nine armor slots and a shield that's +70 for around 140-210. If you put on another shield in your other hand then that's another possible +7. I imagine you could possibly reach 700 PV this way. However I'm not sure how much better than 500 PV that will be since the protection you gain kind of goes down the higher up you go.

What exactly am I doing wrong, then? I haven't gotten around to blessing the new gun, but most of my stuff's been fully enchanted and blessed.

According to the wiki, composite helms have the highest PV, and it's adamantium. (40 pv)
lol <Unknown Shell>, and it's a bad roll. I've seen [3,15] before. (14 pv)
Feathers are a strong "cloak", but I don't know if an armored cloak would be better, either way it's dragonscale. (24 pv)
Adamantium plate mail is beastly and weighs almost as much as your 25s alone. (152 pv)
I use a two-handed weapon, so I lack the PV of shields
The quest rings are the best rings I can think of. (55 PV combined)
Adamantium gauntlets~ (33 PV)
Emerald plate girdle (26 pv)
and my griffon scale seven league boots (4 pv)

Is improvement possible? Yes. Quite a bit of room here, I could go for adamantium everything and end up somewhere around 570-ish PV but adamantium is pretty rare, I'm lucky enough to have what I have already.

It must be the shields you have giving you so much extra PV, since I can't fathom how you'd get the score so high otherwise.

Blessing items (you can bless any item) improves its effects, and may have other interesting sideeffects.

Blessing weapons makes them slightly more damaging, slightly more accurate, and improves their additional effects slightly. Blessing armors does the same, but for protection.

Blessing food makes those foods more filling, and contribute more of their effect to you (eating putits trains charisma, blessed putit corpse trains it even more)

Blessing potions improves their effects mostly, certain blessed potions have other effects, like potions of slow, which normally slow you down (bad), but a blessed one will actually slow your aging process (good?)

Cursed anything is pretty much the opposite, and typically harmful to you. However, certain cursed things can be used to your benefit. Cursed poisons are more powerful, cursed potions of descent raise your level (if I recall correctly, anyway). Generally, if a potion or scroll is cursed. Cursed equipment cannot be removed by normal means. It must be uncursed or eaten. (even then, eating cursed items is bad for you.)

tl;dr; blessed item = good, cursed item = bad

>Ok, umm, does anyone have any advice for someone just starting to play this game? As in I installed it yesterday.

Do escort quests to get money. Get a full set of gear, even basic gear, before doing any dungeons or serious fighting. If you're ok with light to medium armor, glass is nice for decent dodge and a speed boost on each item, and it's easy to get. You'll replace your gear as you get better gear. It may take a while.

>Is it normal to die so fucking much while I'm trying to clear out the putits for that girl in the first town?

If you've JUST started, then yes. It's not surprising that you're dying so much if you're attempting that just after starting. Follow the advice above before even attempting it. Hell, do the Puppy's Cave before trying that one.

>I look at people's screenshots and see most everybody uses round shields. Considering I have a knight shield a fairy can use, should I stick with it?

Always go with gear you can use. Going for the BEST is nice, but don't fret overmuch. The most important part of an item is what extra bonuses it may have. If you're doing a fairy, consider jeweler so that you can get change material scrolls without relying on them randomly showing in shops. You can change items that you couldn't use into items that you can use with those, if you get a nice dawn cloth change or other lightweight type. Also, ALWAYS buy a flying scroll if you find one in a shop. A blessed one will reduce the weight of an item by 25%. You can use more than one on a single item, but it only modifies the current weight (meaning you can't use four to get a 0 stone item, but you can use four to make the item weigh less than a third of its original weight).

This game uses a soft-cap system known here as potential, where the higher you grow the less gain you get over time so eventually you become unable to go any further. This differs between characters, and there are ways of boosting potential to extend your growth.

They each contain an extremely powerful boss monster that you can fight just by walking in.

>What's better, a two-hander, dual wield, or weapon and shield?
They're all fine really, the best one is the one you have awesome gear for. Two-handed is mostly for if your character only has one hand slot (like catgod,) dual wield is good if you can find two different high-damage rare weapons, shields will greatly increase your defense if you take constant damage. The one I'd recommend most is weapon and shield.

>Any difference between the grand piano and the horn in the graveyard? Does changing weight affect its performance?
I don't think so, any instrument is fine. The thing to do with your grand piano is use it as high-value furniture.

I finally found a use for curse scrolls:

Get throwing to level 20ish, shouldn't be that hard if you buff the potential periodically and spend time fighting with a shuriken.

Then get a massive stack of booze bottles. If cursed, booze can induce huge vomiting which can kill pretty much anything. This can be used to take down things you aren't strong enough to fight normally, since this type of death circumvents any strengths and defenses an enemy might have.

Right, but in a lot of cases it seems that griffon will have the same approximate DV but more PV.

If the ONLY thing you ever care about is DV, then the cloth gives more. I'm not sure about the evasion boost, though. Are there any solid numbers out there that tell what boost the evasion skill gives? The wiki says it's a 1% chance dodge per point of DV, but doesn't have data on the evasion skill. Like I said though, I tend to mix them, and use griffon for some items.

From what I've heard, it doesn't make a difference. It would make sense if instrument quality at least made a difference, and if instrument type made a difference.

I mean, a grand piano and a harp offer more complete performances in many ways than a simple horn might, and a harmonica (while nice in its own way, and a quality sound but a very specific sound) simply doesn't match up to their quality.

And materials DO make a difference.

But that's just how instruments work in real life. In Elona, at least for now, I guess there's no difference. Oh, and that performance I posted about just now where <Loyter> enjoys my work? That was done with a harmonica, albeit a cool harmonica (yes, I'm using a "cool" one simply for the sake of its modifier name).

At any rate, I still try to get high quality instruments with strong modifiers, and change their material to something nice if it's bad or default. It does wonders for your house rank.

I don't think I have high enough charisma for more pets, so should I get rid of the ones I have now so that I can try and get bells? And what's better- a gold or silver bell? If nothing else, get rid of some just so that you can do escort quests for good money. Ditch the mushroom, the gangster, and the horse if you're not going to use it as a mount. The little girl is a good pet, and while you might go to the slave master to get one at level four instead of the level one you receive at the beginning, I'd say to keep the one you have now just for sentimentality. If the horse is a nice one, consider getting the riding skill if you aren't a fairy, or if you're a race with an especially slow speed. Otherwise, just ditch the horse.

So, now you should have just one pet, your little girl.

>And what's better- a gold or silver bell? Or should I shoot for one of each? And how rare is it to get a bell from a scroll of ally?

The silver bell is technically stronger, but they're both game-breaking in strength. Shoot for a silver if you have the option, but settle for a gold as soon as you can get one. You can always drop the gold later if you get a silver and don't want to use both of them. Or you can use the gold bell as a gene donor for parts.

I would say to go for a sickle if you can. It gives good damage even if you roll a light-weight material on one. Also, that decap.

Or go for a regular diamond or other high quality material katana and use flying scrolls on it (a katana generally depends on damage dice more than damage bonus, while a sickle/scythe tends to have higher damage bonus - a flying scroll lowers the damage bonus, making it fine to use on most katanas, but devastating to use on a sickle/scythe).

Since you can't get two-hand to work as a fairy (due to the fact that two-hand depends on 4 stone weight minimum weapons without a shield equipped), go for a shield to increase your PV even more (for those times that you DO get hit).

Fairies are suited for warmages yes. Here's my recommendations:

-Fight with weapon and shield combo.

-Join the mage guild, reserve books for one attack spell of your choice, healing, and utility spells.

-Save your money up for buying change material scrolls. Get a big stack together, bless the stack, and then use on equipment to get light weight gear.

-Acquire performer / negotiation / investing and train charisma as high as you can. Build up a large party of hard-to-kill pets, and give them gear that will allow them to take a lot of hits.

-Fight primarily with melee to save spells, using magic only to take out difficult enemies.

-For ranged attack, use a shuriken instead of guns/bows. This will be to train throwing so you can toss potions better. But favor melee so you'll gain levels in weapon / armor / evasion / healing skills.

Forgot to say that with the sickle, use change material to get a light material, and hopefully a decent damage bonus. I think you should get a decent griffon scale that weighs under one stone. A griffon scale sickle weighs .9 stone, with fairly decent damage considering the weight requirement (I think it's the best lightweight material for a weapon possible without flying scrolls if you need to match the one stone limit - ether not being counted - but you can shoot for ether if you can handle that and always have a "slows ether disease" item on).

Hope that helped.

Not only that, but a shuriken is a very strong and light weapon. You'll probably have better damage output using a shuriken (you can probably use diamond, etc materials for a higher die roll) than a paper/cloth gun and bullet. The obvious detriment is that you use one less slot.

Shop before museum. The reason for this is that a shop will steadily work up its revenue generating ability over time, so the longer you have it the better. I'd say the transition point is when the mage guild quest is complete and the player is able to do performer jobs. >I'd say the transition point is when the mage guild quest is complete and the player is able to do performer jobs.

Right, though you can do performer jobs as soon as you grind your skill up to that level, which is wholly dependent on you. The mage guild quest, however, can take a while just trying to get enough of those books.

>Once you can do that you can safely turn your back on ranged attacks, and until that point the player would be using a shuriken to train throwing as a niche utility for potion attacks.

Right, because once you open the mage guild, you don't have to worry so much about spell stocks, since you can always nab more books as long as you've got them on pre-order. Plus you can then go on to train spells against, say, a monster in a sand bag, because then you can afford to waste spells just for the sake of training, where before you could only use whatever you got and had at least a 50% chance of casting in combat, and even then just sometimes.

But yeah, you got to remember that a big part of the game is building up to that point (because it can take a while), but you get freedom once you hit it.

This is also a good time to build up your melee fighting so you can develop your ability to take hits if you're building a mage (and can't risk melee against non-weak enemies.)

Notoriously, Puppy's Cave. Still, it's annoying and you end up having to sleep and eat a lot in the dungeon just to farm it. I just never did the farming Puppy's Cave route because I didn't feel like farming there. So, I do performer and escort quests and other things, and then do Puppy's Cave for the ancient books once I'm decked out (and already did it for the cooler box).

To think about it in a strategic sense, in the interest of building a mage and starting off with shurikens I'm thinking the way to go is to get to level 10-ish, then start clearing every random dungeon you can find under level 10. This should net some ancient books while also making steady growth in your skills and wealth.

I'd say a mage builder would not even need to worry about magic until level 15-ish, hopefully by that point the character should be done or almost done with the mage quest as well as having decent training in literacy and a good reserve of spells stocked up.
