Tewi's significantly less likable.
Tewi has inherent magical power and is at significantly less risk when pulling any sort of prank. She's anything but an underdog. Marisa, however, canonically works extremely hard for every bit of her power. For that reason, her pranks often have a motive (besides vindictiveness) to them, require a bit of knowledge (as in the OP) or wisdom, and can be received in a Robin Hood sort of way, as Marisa's a human going up against inherently powerful and long-living youkai.
Tewi pranks for the sake of pranking. Marisa's mischief usually has some sort of goal to it. Even if it's greed or revenge, it's something we can relate to as an audience.
Also, Reisen often takes the heat for Tewi's mischief, whereas Marisa can't really run from her mistakes.
I always assume that Marisa pulls bigger pranks, but Tewi pulls pranks far more often. Buried deep in the bamboo forest, who knows what she's up to.

Tewi always comes across as someone who takes pleasure at the expense of others. That last bit is important. The suffering of others isn't an essential part of who Marisa is and what she does. She's a thief, not the "Jackass" crew.
