ZUN uploads his conscience to the spanning collective hivemind that has become the meta-internet. For some time, he just turns to exploring the vast ether, seeing what other people have done with his work.
Eventually, as many uploaded minds, he starts to make new creations out of boredom, delivering to the meatspace masses and seeing their reaction. With advances in neural stimulation technology, and the help of the anonymous hivemind, the ZUN entity finally delivers his afterlife work.

Many men abandon their physical bodies to start living full time in Gensokyo. Others, turn to their specs to just jack in anytime, anywhere, living a double life. As the boundary becomes blurry, several sects pop up, claiming that the apparently virtual Gensokyo is in fact just a gateway to a real place, beyond our earthly world.
The ZUN entity looks down, and sees that all's good.
