Foobar can play the .tta files but if you feel like converting them to .FLAC or whatever for your MP3 player/Media player of choice then Foobar also provides an easy convert tool. I forgot to ask about dual-audio, but I didn't think of it at the time. But every PS3 game NISA localized has had dual-audio, and Atelier Rorona will be too, so it's very likely Ar Tonelico 3 will be dual-audio.

They seemed to have ignored the fan-translation question, but another anon guessed it's because they didn't want or aren't allowed to acknowledge it, especially since they "kinda" messed up the AT2 translations themselves.

Still, I'm happy NISA gives human responses. Now to comment on each answer:

1a. So the current title is staying. I guess this is to bring newcomers to the series so they won't have to worry about two other titles, but still...

1b. Ar Tonelico 2 had extra stuff so AT3 might too, but we'll see.

2. And I now hear the collected sighs of relief from the Europeans in this thread.

I forgot about AT2's limited edition, it had some pretty nice goodies. The soundtrack, another CD with more music that wasn't on the original soundtrack and an official art book, if I recall correctly. I'd personally hope for something similar with AT3.. maybe the OST along with the artbook maybe?

Yeah, but having an english voice track will broaden the audience, not to mention allowing those who seen Toradora previously might watch it again with a whole new experience. (Example: Watching Pani Poni Dash dub is VERY different than watching it in japanese.)

If they have it as subs only it makes it practically pointless, because then they'll just go to fansubs. The only use of it would be having a physical copy.

With a dub you get both worlds.

Only the cutscenes are dubbed. There's less than a handful of them and most only last for a few seconds. Infact the only major cutscenes I can recall are the Viena cutscene and the final cutscene with Nenesha and Infel talking to the party, one of those didn't even have talking and the other was still in Japanese. Just download them and be done with it.

The gameplay is pretty mediocre in that it's far too simple and easy. AT2 expands on the combat system a little but it's still quite easy. However pretty much everything else in the game makes up for this; awesome storyline, very likeable characters In before Luca/Cloche debate, amazing music etc. I don't know or care what it got in reviews, all I know is that the first two AT games are some of the few games that I've completed and felt extremely satisfied with the 30+ hours I put into each.

I don't think I would get the new Atelier games as I recently dropped Mana Khemia 2 about ~6 hrs in. I got to a huge chunk of alchemizing in the game (took like 1 hr 20 min) and all that was going through my mind was NOT THIS SHIT AGAIN. It looks like I may have burnt out on Atelier's brand of alchemy forever, which is unfortunate.

Second post in the thread, download the games and see for yourself. The actual gameplay is mediocre at best mainly because it's far too simple and easy. Everything else like music, story, characters, character interaction etc. is all awesome, at least to me. This is further expanded by the fact that there's regular updates to the franchise via the Toukousphere and the Technical Data Compilation Room. There's a reason these are part of a niche market; it's more of a visual novel packed full of sexual innuendo than anything else. I'm sure if a casual/normalfag who plays Halo/MW2 etc. decided to 'review' the games I wouldn't be surprised if they rated it low.

Well the thing is that Ar Tonelico has been from the very beginning a Galge (Girl Game), meaning that it's foremost about the girls, the heroines.

The gameplay is really only secondary, it often gets bad grades when reviewed by western game critics unfamiliar with the whole Galge concept, and they rate it low simply because of relatively weak gameplay.

It is made so that the gameplay should never get in the way of the girls or the story, and thus you should never have to "grind" in the entire game and you should be able to waltz straight through encounters as long as you aren't doing something completely wrong.
It's a design chosen on purpose by the developers as gameplay should never get in the way, the gameplay itself is more an element to give a certain flavour to the rest of the game, but flavours aren't ment to get in the way.

They also have huge (50%ish~, at least it felt like it) VN modes (with no "gameplay") of the games where you explore the inner minds of the heroines and go through all sorts of adventures with romance and CGs and all that, like regular VNs.

The stories are all devided into several routes all resulting with different Heroines and different ends.

But yes it's a Galge and the game is about the girls and their stories foremost, and the plots themselves mostly revolve around them, and you the main character is connected to the plot by being connected with the heroines, who are connected to the plot.
So it's all about them, and your connection to them.

But it also has beautiful music, truly, and they are lovely stories.

okay. so I'm looking at the Hymmnos Concert files for AT2 and they contain 2 cues and a .tta. I've tried opening them with daemon and that didn't work, so I looked up .tta and found it's a compressed file, so I downloaded some of the tta directshow codecs to see if I could just run it and that didn't work. I don't want to download a whole lot of other shit onto my computer trying to figure this out, so how do I open it/play it?

All of the cues in the AT torrents seem to have this problem. They reference a wave file instead of the tta file. Find the line like this in the cue file (open in a text editor):

FILE "KDSD-10027.wav" WAVE

Change the .wav to .tta:

Replaying AT2 for Luca, Jacqli, and Cocona ends. The route split is going to be painful.

I wish that this game had a bigger budget. When you really take time to look at the setting (mostly the city maps), its fairly interesting, but what the player interacts with and sees in the areas that you can walk around is fairly limited. It doesn't help that the sprites and backgrounds are often undetailed and/or flat-looking. AT1 looks better.

RPG soundstracks usually span multiple discs. Cheaper to just create a sampler CD or something.
