If you want to be treated nicely in Japan, not being assaulted by the police officers and looked down upon as the dirty gaijin, this thing is the key to success.

I was walking past one of those natives-only stores when the shop keeper came out and having seen the fiddle box I was carrying, asked me if I played the violin. I took my fiddle out and started playing. People stopped in their way to listen, and by the time I was finished I had gathered a whole crowd. They were standing there silently, awe-struck, and when I finished they gave me applause, whistled and the shop keeper invited me to his shop. I was surprised at this sudden friendliness and how good an audience they are.

I'm aware the shop keeper probably just wanted me in for some advertisement, still, it's better than being yelled at.

You must have been very good. Or the Japanese were so awestruck that a filthy gajin could even play an instrument.

I'm leaning towards the former.

Bring the good ol' bugle boys, we'll sing another song
Sing it the spirit that will march the world along
Sing it as we used to sing it, fifty thousand strong
While we were marching through Georgia!

I might consider, is fiddle easier than violin?
Because yeah, violin takes enormous dedication and effort and it's pretty much impossible to learn when you're already grown up.

>> No.5805711

Congratualation, you made an ass of yourself and bowed down to the requests of a complete stranger for some sham "acceptance".

No, my dear OP, this isn't the key to success. That is the key to submission.

I implied nothing like that in my post. Stop being an overreacting manchildren, please.
I'm just saying that if my only way to get treated nicely by Japanese is acting like a buffoon for their selfish amusement, then I'd rather be spit on and be assaulted by power-tripping policemen.

You should have played some anime or touhou music instead

Violin is for faggots though.

Play a classy instrument like the trumpet or the piano.

Forgot to mention I declined the shop keeper's offer and went on my way afterwards. I'm musician though, why shouldn't I play for people?

>> No.5805844

>>5805621
Yeah, as one who plays both, I'd say fiddle is easier. Most folk music doesn't require you to play in higher positions on the instruments neck, though there are a lot of double stops and antics in that one position you're in. Depends on the type of folk music though, in Norwegian folk music there are a lot of trills and tricky harmonies.

Op, that's pretty awesome. I hope you meet some cute Jp girl (or boy, if you prefer) who has a thing for violinists.

>> No.5806085

Holy shit, why does that thing have seven pegs?

>> No.5806395

>>5806085
Nine! Four of them are for the strings you actually play on, the five others is stretched out under the finger board and resonate with what is being played, making the instrument very soundfull. Having eight, nine or ten strings is typical for the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle.

My dad
http://www.uvu.edu/music/faculty/margetts.html

I only took 2 years of lessons from him though so I can't play very well. Wish I could wow an audience like OP but I'm stuck watching my dad be the world class violinist.

May as well use my tripcode since it's obvious, not many people from Orem Utah on /jp/.

Maybe assaulted was the wrong word. They stop you on every occasion ask for identity and papers. Even when you ask them for directions, they don't even answer the question.

I don't look particularly filthy either...
