Those of you who are NEETing around with your parents, have you ever considered joining the military? I mean, it might be a pain for the 4-8 or how many years you stick around (you can get retirement benefits after 20, though I kind of doubt most NEETs would go that far) but your expenses would be so low for the duration that you could stash away most of that income, and then come out with enough to live with no worries for quite some time. I dunno, I guess it probably isn't such an attractive option if your parents don't mind you there (my mom used to threaten to kick me out all the time, but I think she realized I'm a lost cause years ago and just kind of learned to accept it) but if you're worried you might wind up on the street in the near future, it might not be such a bad thing to look into.

Not really. The only reason you'd join the military is if you were going to apply for a civilian job, because that's where the money is. I'm talking anything from, say, a tank mechanic or underwater welder for ships, or something relating to computers or health care. But for all this you need a degree and qualifications. If your idea is to join the military as a recruit and become a soldier then you're making the biggest mistake of your life. Yes the work is secure only because it's illegal to quit or leave. The money they pay you in most cases is well below the poverty line in places like Canada or USA so you better have a girl to support you too. Assuming you're over the age of 18 I believe you can apply even if you live at home, but you may have to move out to keep getting the money. It also depends what you're applying for; unemployment insurance, disability, welfare and so on. It also depends on where you live.

If you want to apply for disability you need to apply, then they will review your case and send you to a doctor to see if you qualify. It can often be tricky to get on, as the doctor could assume you're just faking it or not really that bad. Also, they rarely hand out disability for social anxiety disorder, it has to be real severe. If you had something like bi-polar or schizophrenia it's obviously easier, but anything is possible.
