I'd be kind of sad, but since the series hasn't really gone anywhere since PCB/IN era, I don't think I would mind much. I hardly even played any of the touhoes newer than Mountain of Faith.

Currently something like 80% of doujin releases are touhou related (actual number based on what was offered at some comiket or something) so if Touhou died, it would mean massive creative rush to other properties. People would make doujins of obscure series and characters.

Quite oddly, I'd contest that. Games between MoF and UFO have been related by plot much more closely than either the PC-98 games or anything from ESoD to PoFV. Most of the events since SA have been related to the Moriya cast:

MoF - Moriya Shrine arrives
SA - Kanako gives dumb raven nuclear power; hilarity ensues
UFO - SA-caused geysers revealed the pieces of the Soaring Vault via geysers allowing the Palanquin Ship crew to resurrect Byakuren
Hisoutensoku/UNL - Suwako is fooling around

Assuming Tenshi saw the events of MoF, Moriya may even be indirectly the cause of SWR by causing her to be interested in the "people down there."

Sanae is the only one who reliably uncovers what her "giant robot" actually was.
