In retrospective is probably was foolish of us to expect something different from your average "protagonist starts as a wimp and by the end he's Deus Ex" story. Anyway, the game was really enjoyable for a long while so I won't say it's bad due to a mediocre last chapter.

Yes, the way the game went it was pretty much the only way to finish it. I'm sure I could have taken the ending better if I had been ready for shounen battles, but the game itself set you in a wrong mindset to tackle that ending.
