[SPOILER] No.5673474[SPOILER]  [Reply] [Original]

The last time I tried to translate something it was that infamous Osaka doujin, nearly 5 years ago. Since then, I have not tried to do any other translation and editing by myself until now.

My question is: When is a raw considered "clean"? What fonts go better with manga/doujin? I just started and am trying my hand at it, but as you can see I have a long way to go.

looks pretty clean to me.

Uh, it's up to the editor/typesetter to decide how much work he puts into it. Some people don't bother to redraw backgrounds/art obscured by text. Some people can't stand it when others don't. Fonts are also their choice.

Common choices are Wild Words and equivalents. I believe Tokyopop uses some from blambot and comiccraft but it isn't something recommended. There's a rather huge list of fonts that can be used for sfx, side text, etc. so you might want to start off by looking for font recommendations for manga via google. It works the same for doujins.

And really, it looks fine. The text seems to stand out more than it should but that's probably me being a faggot.

No gutter shadows, the page needs to be leveled to the point where parts of the page that are black are the blackest black, the same with white. Also try to make sure there's no "dirt" left on the page. I'm talking about those 1-2 pixel gray/black dots. Some of these should vanish with proper leveling. If the page seems tilted you need rotate and crop it.

The fonts I personally use the most are Anime Ace and Wild Words for text bubbles but all in all it depends what font suits your tastes the most.

Besides, if I wrote Yukarin people would think I meant the Yukari (17 years old!) anyway.

Also, fuck you.

Some basic editing tasks include making sure blacks are actually black while whites are whites. That sounds like it has nothing to do with scanslations. Cleaning up "dirt" and other random artifacts is an easy task these days with use of photoshop filters (neat image, topaz denoise, etc.) Most people use and rely on these filters too much and pictures begin to lose detail with complete objects suddenly going missing. You can avoid this by using transparency layers among other methods.

You'd also want to check if the page is straightened. Depending on the scanner, the raws may be tilted or even worse, if the person did not debind before scanning, there might be a lot of work ahead of you. Not really an issue these days.

Two page joins would fit under redraws I suppose and also another "up to you" as they can take a considerable length of time. I do them whenever possible.

At least he tries. But you sure are better by posting those shitty tripfag circlejerk videos on Youtube, right?

Don't even bother translating things for others, especially for /jp/ of all places. It's just not even worth your time.

Forgot to add one thing. If you do actually crop the pages make sure to resize them after. Make sure all of your pages are roughly the same width and height.

Based on what I see from your test page you should also try to to have the text centered more in the text bubbles.
