That'd be copping out.
Since I couldn't fire bolts at the invading goblins my next idea was to fling dogs. So I attached 2-3 war dogs to each soldier I had.
My army of 30 dwarves and 80 dogs charged an invading group of 9 goblins.
5 goblin marksdwarves and 4 goblin spearmen managed to kill every single one of them by running backwards and firing crossbows.
I raged so hard at the stupidity of it. They can fire crossbows but I can't?
But then I thought about how my dwarves had just slip-n-slided to their death sliding across a sea of dog gore, straight into the spears of the goblins, and I felt a little better at how silly it was.

Sounds like fun times.

As for your marksdwarves, they probably never picked up any bolts in the first place, that's the main problem they seem to be having.

Marksdwarves are pretty unnecessary now, certainly not the death machines they used to be. Armor, especially steel, is immensly more effective. I had one guy in full steel gear rush 3 goblin ambush squads camping my drawbridge. From around 8 goblin bowmen barraging him with arrows, he barely got a bruised toe, before getting in melee range and raping the shit out of them. Swords seem to be particularly effective now.

If you get adamantine gear, which is much, much easier (dig to magma sea while blocking any caves you break in with constructed walls/floors so you don't get any forgotten beasts/GCS, spot vein, dig a bit off the top so you don't break into hell), invaders become a joke.
