When I played Meiling at my most intense I do recall handeling the Okuu match-up pretty well. Of course there will be raging, but that's inevitable either way. What I didn't manage that well was the Yuyu and/or Yuka match-ups; and perhaps Aya. Aya and Meiling are much alike, only that Aya is better in most respects, and have good sniping bullets. Meiling actually is at a disadvantage in every single match-up that isn't Meiling vs Meiling.

It's still possible to win with her, but it can be quite difficult, especially if you're playing against competent people who use Yuyuko, Okuu, Suika, Iku, or other such characters.

GGs Mungay, I have somewhere I need to be early tomorrow so I'll be calling it a night. I was planning to go to sleep an hour ago, but then I saw you hosting and couldn't resist.

I don't remember you playing Meiling before. Looks like you don't use any of her 236s, but they have their uses. Also, you got hit a bit too many times with Cirno's melee specials. Icicle Sword is highly punishable on block, and I kept spamming it around mindlessly. Ice Charge, on the other hand, is safe on block, and comes out very fast, so be more careful against that. I often use it after a 5C to catch attackers off-guard, and as a surprise attack from halfway of the screen.

GGs Idler. I think I've used Meiling a few times before actually, but I always end up using Komachi a few games later, so it was a good change for once in a while I guess.

I haven't had a close look at Meilings alternate Skill cards before, but I'll get to it before using her again.
I have no idea how I'm supposed to make use of her "Fragrant Wave" - 236B/C and just end up hurting myself everytime I use it, and also, I can't seem to hit with the "Scarlet Cannon" - 623B/C when I want to.
Guess I have some hours in the practice mode to look forward to then.

See here, if I quit after losing you'd call it rage quit. If I quit after winning it's just as bad. Damn if you do, damn if you don't. Is it strange that people quit playing this game here? That is if I even bother. You know, the people at the IRC channels are in fact nice folks. There's nothing stopping the hosts here from abandoning this shithole, and leave you poor fuckers who can't even figure out how to open portsor lives in a dorm baww, and leave you with no other choice than to follow the stream or play versus the AI if you'd want to keep playing this game.

66b -> spellcards with Sakuya is a good technique that people need to learn to watch out for. I feel absolutely no shame in throwing out 66b, and have to wonder why people look down on it so much. It's no different from every other bit of fishing that occurs in this game.

Sakuya's 66b is not just a random move equal to any other shit in the game. It's lighning fast, completely safe on block, hits decently high, thus covering good area, and the worst thing that can happen is being hit by a few bullets, and potentially a follow-up. But being prepared for following up bullet hit-confirms on a safe distance from Sakuya, while still shaking off the fear of eating 4k damage in a snap; personally I don't see myself in that situation. Besides, just throwing bullets ain't safe either, you could potentially eat a 66c at any time if you don't space yourself even further away; now we're talking half the map. Oh yeah, you just block that and you're guaranteed the punish of your dream, right? No, not in my experience. I get to do damage about 66% of the times I block a 66c. True story.

But ultimately it's the desperation; so many Sakuya players just seem so desperate to pull off that easy stroke. I'd be respectful of this strategy had it been used as a scare, and only when you'd least expect it, but no; it's all the time. It's like the game is all about pulling that combo off. You'll get to see it and the mere attempts dozens of times, just picture that, if you haven't experienced it first-hand already. If you after that still play the game with a smile on your face, then I don't know what you are.

Again: it's not about the damage points, it's about the joy of the game.

I would have lost even harder if earlier today I didn't play another Yukari for an hour. I had a much easier time in the mirrors! Lets continue our matches when you have time again.

Purple border is a pretty good spellcard in my opinion. It'll guardcrush if the opponent has under 1.5 orbs, so it can be used to finish off people who turtle when they're very low on health. Also combos for decent damage off 5AAA or default 623C, and at the worst, you can use it as a reversal although I wouldn't recommend it.

>> No.5661704

But it IS her reversal card. Quick, invincible startup.

In my opinion it's one of the games most typical reversals, with good coverage and invincibility. The most common way you'd punish a reversal in generak terms is on block, but if you block right in the middle of this one, it could just as well end up as preassure (esp. 4 card SC); so you have to know well it in order to bait/punish it well - just like it's supposed to be.

However, there is something I don't understand. Quite a few people on /jp/ have main characters - i've spectated them, and they play this character and flaunt it like they've actually achieved something.

It's like you're playing the game seriously.
How can you play this game seriously when there is the element of random weather?
Typhoon can throw the entire match if you're a certain character. That's not even the only weather that completely fucks everything over.

You seem to be under the impression that sage affects a thread negatively. This is untrue.

The value of a non-stickied thread is 0. For all intents and purposes, the thread is in equilibrium.

A normal post has a value of +1. At the instant a normal post is submitted, the value of the thread becomes 0+1, and the thread is bumped, breaking equilibrium. However, the thread immediately returns to its previous state of equilibrium, 0.

A sage post has a value of 0. When a sage post is submitted, the value of the thread becomes 0+0, and the thread is not bumped, but remains in equilibrium.

Tl;dr SAGE DOES NOTHING (and you are most likely an idiot)

Good thing that you mentioned that, I almost forgot to give a good piece of advice. When you use Patchouli's 66b attack in combo play, make sure that it hits at least twice if you'd like to connect it with Royal Flare (only exception is counter hit), out of the max 3 hits. I don't receommend risking your spellcards on this however, as this combo starter tends to be somewhat situational. Besides, Royal Flare is overall an awesome SC in itself, so I wouldn't worry so much about comboing everthing. I'm sure you all know how damage caps work.

I'm also sure that everyone knows that Patchu's 66b is grazeable, so it wouldn't work for frame trapping. Just making sure.

GGs, and thanks for the games, Mire. You really should use Utsuho's 3A more. It's huge and can't be blocked in air, it would've stopped many of my attacks. Also, you need to block a lot more, especially when you think I might use Icicle Sword. It's highly punishable but I kept spamming it like an idiot.

>I saw you trying to let me have a 'try' a few times
I never do that consciously, but I have a tendency to start playing around trying to achieve a flashy ending, like trying to bait you into using rocket dive, which I then planned to punish with a Perfect Freeze. I really need to apologize about that, it's not like I'm not taking my opponent seriously but I just get an urge to start goofing around when I think I'm winning. Hell, I've lost many matches because of that.

>I apologise for not being any match at all.
Well, at least I had fun, which is a miracle when facing Utsuho.

Yeah, I realised the 3a thing. In fact, I realised it every time when I could've used it but threw 5a instead. Tried to remember doing 3a, but kept instinctively throwing 5a instead every single time. I'll work it out at some point.

About icicle sword, it really didn't seem punishable at all. At least, the pushback meant that I wasn't in range to actually throw anything that could be fast enough to punish it. I'm probably just missing something.

No need to apologise for goofing around! Not really your problem if you're being silly and I still can't get anything done.

>About icicle sword, it really didn't seem punishable at all.
I don't know about playing Utsuho so much so I can't say what's the best way to punish it, but it's definitely punishable in most cases. The C -version with the huge upwards arc is so slow to recover from that it's possible to get right in front of me and land any combo you want. I often alternate between using Icicle Sword and Icicle Rise, because IS is hard to use against most characters, while IR is a great tool for harassing airborne opponents. Now Ice Charge, on the other hand, can't be punished at all normally, and although it has smaller damage, it's a very good move since it comes out so fast that it can be used with 5C to attack with both melee and projectiles at the same time, and can even be used in the air from level 2 and up. That's a move you'll really need to look out for.

Well, I did some testing with Utsuho and it seems both versions of Icicle Sword can be punished with 5AA 3A 2C, although it seems that the first 5A will whiff sometimes. Another, safer way would be to use 6A 6C or something similar, that'll have your opponent at least blocking even if you can't do it on time. I don't know about her specials but I'll assume you could combo to at least some of them.

Also, some characters like Youmu could sacrifice one spirit orb immediately after blocking Icicle Sword to do a border escape towards the opponent. This'll allow them to do any combo they wish. Utsuho's border escape seems to be too slow for this.

Thanks for the games, aki! The matches seemed rather even, despite the start difference of our characters. It was kinda fun. Even if I still kept forgotting to do 3a, but seemed to go overall better than yesterday!

Also, Aya is amazingly hard to get any kind of hold of while as Utsuho. Thankfully, Aya doesn't seem to do much of any spirit damage, so I could just block at my leisure if you got me cornered.

Apologies for cutting it short, but the temperature isn't getting any less pleasant, so I should take a bit off from being at the computer.

Actually, that sounds like a good way to get some more damage out of that card. It seems like scorching sun would work in your favor as long as you don't go to the very top of the screen.

>> No.5698089

>>5697938
Well, it could work but most likely both players will get about the same amount of extra damage, since even though scorching sun adds power to your attacks, Aya flies high above the top of the screen at the end of Illusionary Dominance.

It'd work great as a round ender by going as high as you can, though.
