You can actually make your own server, just download an achievement map and play with bots. Set sv_cheats to 1 and spawn the right bots, set it back to 0 and retry.
It's much nicer than joining an achievement server, and most of the achievements can be done alone anyways.

The guy who made tf2items.com, got a Community Knife, and was responsible for the whole idling fiasco that led to the halos. He got a leak to the wrench drop times and crafted one. They figured this out because he tried several times earlier. He also created a script to rapidly smelt and unsmelt items before they disabled it.
Then they banned his ass.

Also, picked this up from /v/ for those who want to idle but want to conserve computer power

2. Right click your TF2 in Steam and hit properties and go to launch options
3. Put the following in your launch options without quotes "-textmode - nosound -novid - nopreload" and launch TF2
4. TF2 will now open but in a CMD window that takes up very little CPU and less memory than normal
5. In Steam, open the server browser and find an idling server and double click it
6. Watch the TF2 CMD window--it will connect to the server and if you successfully did it, you will see the events happening in the server--usually all the players repeatedly suiciding
7. After sufficient time, close the CMD window, remove the launch options, and go in a regular TF2 server. Open console and type kill. Your new items will show up, and the server chat box will be spammed with you finding items
