Help me decide on a figure. They're all Griffon, but I really don't have much choice until Kotobukiya's Yukari comes out.

I'm looking at Kaguya, Sakuya (the one pictured), Aya, and Komachi. Which should I get first?

Sakuya is really nice, the only thing stopping me is the steep price tag. I guess I'll pick up something along with the Reisen release at the end of the month.

I kind of wish the Aya was better. It has some nice stuff (the camera, notebook, and crow on her arm) that other figures don't have, but it suffers from Griffon sameface and it doesn't really suit her that well. The only other Aya figure I saw was nice, but it had her with a Tengu mask and sword as opposed to her reporter stuff.

Oh, and here's Kaguya. While I'm not really a fan of her canon personality of being...well, a shut-in bitch who doesn't care about anyone but herself, the figure itself is nice. It doesn't suffer from Sameface, and the base is really big to accommodate all the accessories...which happen to be the objects that she had impossibly requested. Kaguya herself is kind of small in comparison to the other three.

The faces on most of the figures are a MAJOR deterrent. As I said, "sameface." Griffon tends to print each figure with the exact same expression, and it only fits a few. Having Marisa, Reimu, and Komachi lined up with the same expression, and only Komachi's face looks right, with Marisa being a close second. Reimu holding that expression is downright wrong.

Oh, and this month's new releases by Griffon are Earth and Moon rabbits. If I actually liked Tewi I would buy this in a heartbeat.

Kaguya's a canon bitch who sent men to their deaths and feels no remorse over it. While Mokou should really get over her father's death by now, I could see why she was angry in the first place.

There's a difference. Mokou's father died while trying to fulfill Kaguya's impossible requests...which is why Mokou hates Kaguya. She blames her for her father's death. Keine will move on in peace. If Kaguya somehow manages to be responsible for Keine's death, then that will make Mokou even madder and try to find a way to leave Kaguya alive but in extreme pain since they just recover from death anyway.

Honestly their cities are probably nicer than most. Tokyo is much better than New York (not that that's saying a whole lot). It'd be a nice place to live but if they really discriminate against non-japanese as much as I've heard they do I don't think I could do it. As far as the whole "living in Japan" thing goes, the whole xenophobia thing hasn't really applied to me. It pretty much comes down to they have the idea that all foreigners, especially Americans are going to come into their country and run around like they own the place. As long as you aren't a complete dickhead you'll get fair treatment. Xenophobia isn't as rare as people think. It's just called "racism" in America and isn't considered a social norm because LOL EQUALITY.

Finding a job and place to live is the real trouble. As long as you're respectful of the customs and aren't military, you'll be fine. Most places only hire people with Japanese fluency...it's a plus if you're bilingual since they need English speakers in certain areas. The whole "if you aren't military" is based upon one simple concept: most people in the military are pretty fucking unstable or at least fit in-line with the dickheads who thought they were hot shit in highschool but were dumb as a bag of rocks. Take a whole bunch of those guys, give them professional training on how to beat the shit out of people, and then throw them into one of the most peaceful and industrialized nations in the country, and you get a bunch of very bored dumbfuck assholes who think they own the place, starting barfights and raping the locals just for fun.

Looks like this thread was derailed and re-railed somewhat. I own several griffon figs, maybe my input is relevant here. I have the Marisa, Alice, Eirin and Kaguya (and ordered the Tewi). They're not as sameface as I had expected though some of their faces aren't really 'canon' (hard to match nicely to ZUN art though I'll admit). I don't have any regrets getting any of them though the Ichijin Marisa is probably superior. They all look better in person than in pictures, particularly Kaguya and Alice. The Komachi one looks nice and if I had loads more of disposable income I'd consider getting her.

The people unilaterally hating Kaguya here haven't really read CiLR or any of the other canon material, have they? She's a nice, if somewhat ditzy, person that likes to tell stories and enjoys the company of others. There doesn't seem to be any vivid animosity between her and Mokou and the impossible requests were polite ways of turning down selfish and powerful men who lusted after her based solely on her looks. The fact that most of them lied or gave up shows the kind of persons she had to deal with. There's no real reason to hate any touhou in the manner they're depicted in canon.

The only big problem that I have with Griffon's Alice figure is that Shanghai is attached to the base with a giant clear plastic pole rammed into her butt, which looks very lame. I really need to get around to fixing that with some thin craft wire...otherwise, it's fine, although Alice's Grimoire would be better if it were opened or if it were being held differently.

I just noticed that Toylet has that Patche figure, and the markup isn't too unbearable. Ugh...

I prefer to think of her only becoming that way after the whole Kaguya-Hime incident. I just really don't like her for not thinking she did anything wrong with regards to Mokou...and I don't even like Mokou. I think she should just own up and apologize.

As far as her figure goes, it's really nice despite the fact that its price tag is in the lower-tier. Sakuya is 7800 in Tora, Kaguya is 5560 or something...which is the same price as Komachi/Shiki/Aya.

As far as the sameface thing goes, they do have the exact same face for 4 of them. Tora no Ana has a display case with Griffon's Reimu, Marisa, Aya, and Komachi all lined up. They have the exact same expression...it was a bit weird.

Meh, I think I might get Kaguya considering it's nice and not as expensive as Sakuya...that and it would be nice to create a full house before moving onto individual figures...and Eientei is my favorite house of Gensokyo nobles, with Scarlet Devil being a far second...that and there are no figures of China yet so I can't even complete the house.

Figurinefag here. I have been waiting for a good Yukari for some time, and I don't understand what people see in Kotobukiya's PVC release of that old resin kit.

The face looks off, her body leans awkwardly, the dress and the parasol are laking in detail, her boobs are too big and they don't even look like boobs. And she wears some large heavy boots when she should be wearing elegant high-heels.

I'm not getting it, that's all I'm saying.

I can't say about the first gen of griffon figs beyond Marisa (don't have Reimu and the others). But I'm looking at two of them right now (Eirin and Kaguya); Their face structure (cheekbone is of different size and angle) are different and are of different sizes, their smiles are similar but the eyes and eyebrows carry different looks. It's not much, but it's an alright amount of variation given how animu faces are pretty samefacish to begin with.

Kaguya and Eirin are two of the ones that stand out. But look at Komachi and Aya's face. They have the exact same structure and expression. Griffon is guilty of reusing this expression in a lot of figures, and it isn't until recently that they started correcting it with proper variation.

Japanese royalties don't work that way. They have strict copyright laws that aren't enforced because of the really vague nature of intellectual property. If he actually did something about it he probably could get royalties, but as it stands he (and most other people with prominent IPs) simply don't care. While she isn't my favorite character, I've always liked her somewhat simpler design (there aren't too many frills, and her hair is just really long with no decoration) as well as her theme. She's my favorite stage 6 boss in terms of design, with Yuyuko being my favorite in terms of canon personality. I have yet to see a good Yuyuko figure with the exception of a bust, though.

That said, I saw Griffon's Yuyuko...and it says that amiami has 14 left. Does figure production actually stop at some point? I want to get her, but I'd rather wait until I have more money.
