Alright,

So, recently, I've gotten bored of video games, so I started getting more and more involved in my secret passion for anime. I've actually always been jealous for you guys, and I've decided to change my ways to become one with /jp/

You're actually looking for /a/.

If you want to "become one with /jp/"
-Play Touhou
-Read Visual Novels (You can decide what to read at VNDB google it)
-Don't use memes and always use correct grammar
-Don't mention other boards
-Recognize that the sage function is not negative
-Don't bring up anime in /jp/ or other unrelated hobbies
-Most of all, take it easy.

The problem is that using memes usually doesn't go well with taking it easy. Most of the time they're just used to troll, which is pretty much the farthest from taking it easy you can be. Some memes are fine if they're actually funny and you don't spam them. We're a community and we need to respect each other by not shitting on the rest of the board. /jp/'s average age is not 12 and I think a good deal of us have gotten past that absolutely moronic stage in our lives.

In any event, just do things which make the board more enjoyable. If memes will do that, go ahead. If not, please don't act annoying just to be annoying.

>80% of /jp/ers are angry little nerds who feel threatened whenever anyone who isn't part of their secret club shows themselves

Yeah, you're not really helping your case here chum. You were new once, too. Let's face it: realistically, you've probably barely been here eight months, if that. There is no need to be a dick just because you're so old and hardkore or whatever the fuck.

Y'know what pisses me off about forums where you have to register? The community gets to a point where it becomes a circle jerk over a select handful of posters, typically the ones who have been there the longest or who post the most. Haven't you ever seen that? That retarded dude with his 7000+ posts acting like some elitist douche to someone with 2-10 posts? The new guy could be a perfectly nice and intelligent individual, but he's just being judged over how long he's been in the secret club.

That's one of the reasons I can't stand browsing non-4chan forums anymore. That's also one of the reasons people like you annoy me, because you bring that same attitude here, to 4chan of all places, where it's supposed to be post quality that matters, not "how long someone has been here," which is especially hilarious considering none of us can prove how long we've been here in the first place, so most of us just pretend to be oldfags to.. what, keep our e-cred?

Give it a rest. Take it easy. Ignore threads you don't like and move on with your life. It's not hard.

>> No.5572504

>>5572457
Ah if only the problem were that simple. The issue isn't that they're new. It's not that they haven't been here. It's not that they don't understand our board's habits, our posting preferences or anything to that effect. No, the problem is that they don't understand what we want to talk about. It is simply impossible to have a proper communication with someone who doesn't have any idea what we're talking about.

I'm not going to say we shouldn't help them. I was the same when I first came to this board. But I adjusted. I think that's the wonderful thing about /jp/. You either learn to be a part of us, and in that case we will probably accept you regardless of your opinions or how long you've been here, or you just plain get the hell out.

Maybe we could be a bit more friendly, but we surely shouldn't budge on what we'll let slide in terms of thread quality. That's how /a/ got so bad. People stopped insulting the Naruto threads. People accepted the weekly bleach bullshit. I just don't want /jp/ to turn out like that.

And yet, if people are having fun in those threads you deem so shitty, what precisely is the problem? Who are you to make decisions on what forum is or isn't shit? Why should you piss on what other people are enjoying?

With the 4chan filter, it is wholly unnecessary to do anything more than report threads that you truly deem unsuitable to the board. That's it. Don't post in them, don't tell everyone that their fun is badwrongfun, just report it, hide it, and move on. There is no need to hang around threads you hate just to tell everyone how stupid they are for not catering to your particular interests. Moot agreed, don't bother him about it

What I mean is when people post things which just plain don't belong here. "Hey guys recommend me VNs" is not a good thread, but I'll still give someone a link to VNDB in the hopes that they can learn to think for themselves. Unfortunately they never do. Threads about Japan are not meant for this board. I tell them to take it to /int/ yet they never do. Anime threads would be better off in /a/, and I certainly mention that. If you're having trouble with torrents, try this:
http://vnddl.webs.com/list.txt

Direct download links to a bunch of visual novels (I'm not sure if they're already translated though, but I think most are).

Just go with Wanko. It's not the best by any means, but it'll at least give you an idea of what a Visual Novel is like:

>Everyone and their mother will deny being newfags on 4chan
Shit do you even know what you're arguing about anymore? We're talking about the shitposters coming here with the "I'm new here (NOT GOING TO LURK DEAL W/IT SAGEFAGS) give me recommendation charts NOW" attitude. And you're really arguing that we can't even tell if they're new?

Naruto was a special example. I've seen worse shows, a lot, in fact. The problem was what it would bring to the board. We knew quite clearly what would happen to /a/ if we kept letting Naruto to be posted. It had just gotten so many terrible fans that any community which discussed it would go down the shitter. Naruto started to become more and more popular on the board, and, what do you know, the board got worse and worse. If there was a Visual Novel which would absolutely ruin /jp/, even if I liked it I would criticize the threads. This is because I honestly love /jp/, just like I used to love /a/, before 2008.

Then ignore them. It really isn't hard. Seriously. It's like a little minus button right next to their posts. Imagine how much mental trauma it will save you if you click that little button!

And if you don't have that button and are still bitching about newfags, hahahaohwow.jpg

It should take a few hours to complete, so, yeah it's not going to be a tiny download.

>The problem was what it would bring to the board.
I think this is an important point. You can ignore/hide bad threads by bad posters, but eventually they will spread to other threads and start posting in them and you won't be able to have any decent discussion. You can see something like this in /jp/ already with the increasing use of implying and reaction images in the majority of threads.

Man, don't bother with Wanko unless you really like loli cat/doggirl sex scenes. It's not that good.

What are you looking for, anyway?

I'm sorry, but I really can't take you seriously now. You are complaining that a show, that you admit isn't even THAT terrible given that there are far worse out there (and believe you me, I acknowledge that it is awful), being talked about on the appropriate board, is a bad thing

You don't like it. I get that. But that does not in and of itself make a board shitty. To use an example: Let us assume I don't like D&D and the Warhammer 40k wargame. Is it fair to call /tg/ shitty just because they often discuss those topics? Even if there are a lot of threads that revolve around those topics?

I just think you're over exaggerating, honestly. It's fine to not like Naruto, but it's silly to think that any one subject like that "poisons" the board irrecoverably, in my opinion

I never said that, dipshit, I said that the term is thrown around all the fucking time for no real reason as a general insult. Look at the OP: it's fair to say he's new. But for every single Touhou or VN recommendation thread I see, everyone pounces on the OP, whether or not he states if he's new or not. And before you go all 'HUR DUR IF HE LURKED MOAR HE'D KNOW,' I don't see why a forum for OTAKU CULTURE shouldn't have a thread every now and again asking about specific aspects of that Otaku Culture, such as what game, VN, or what have you that one should try out

The simple fact is that unless the OP outright states that they are new, you are pulling names out of your ass to degrade someone just because you don't like their post

I'm not sure if you even read my post. I said I don't even particularly dislike it. I dislike what it did to the board. Just like I don't particularly dislike several memes but I don't want them on /jp/. They result only in terrible posting and a quality loss on the board. It's not about what I dislike. Even if I liked Naruto I still wouldn't have wanted it on the board. There's no reason to intentionally screw yourself over just to constantly stick to principles.

Why the fuck not? Because you, with your mystical knowledge bestowed upon you by the Gods on Mount Olympus, know precisely what subjects are worthy of a forum?

Just who the fuck do you think you are? Anime discussion goes on the anime board, yet you in all your self righteousness assume you know the ONE TRUE ROOT OF ALL THE EVIL THAT PLAGUES OUR BELOVED BOARD and use that as an excuse to piss all over those threads that you don't like

Ignore what you don't like. Report it if you must. But don't act so self righteous and indignant when some people have the gall to talk about subjects you don't like on the forum DESIGNED for the discussion of that subject

I am advocating ignoring threads you don't like and reporting the ones that you feel don't belong on the forum due to a difference of board purpose (a thread about anime on /jp/, for example). He is advocating using magical wizard knowledge to divine which subjects are "not healthy" for the forum, however related to the board as decided by the founder of the fucking website may be.
