You, uh, do realize that it's been dead (other than the stuff that was recently translated) for quite some time? I posted those few script files, figured out how to re-insert the scripts (every line actually has a "line length" coded in, you have to change to match what you're inserting. If you set it too long, it will skip into the next line without pausing. If you set it too short, it will cut off the sentence.), and then lost interest. I'm not even sure if I still have my notes around for the hacking bit, it was on my laptop (which has since had an HDD failure).

Honestly, I'd say it's time for the VN community to get more translators, decentralize themselves and increase site redundancy (in other words, have this shit on MULTIPLE VN translation wikis). This overreliance on Moogy, paranoid emo translators, and other idiots who care more about sucking the authors' dicks than the fandom is only going to kill us in the long run--There's no way TLwiki can expand or serve its purose as a site where visual novels are accessible to a wider audience if these patches keep on getting removed.

They can REQUEST a C&D, but that's the limit of what they can do. Hence why I said "effective legal right".

Since copyright issues are civil, not criminal law, the limit of what these publishers can do is sue for damages... that never even occurred, since they can't lose money on something they don't even want to sell in the US.

Besides, all the translation projects do is make the game playable in English. In theory, you still have to own an original copy of the game to even use these patches. In theory.

The publishers can't do a damn thing to any translation project. Just ignore them and continue on.

They haven't been C&D'ing pirates (because that's a matter for law enforcement, anyway) but only people translating their work.

Officially, VN fan-translators want us to buy the games they put the effort into localizing for us. It just usually doesn't work that way.

>"Who cares if you might get sued?"

As I've explained, they can't sue anyone unless they register their copyright in the relevant country. Which they're never going to do.

Do you have any idea how much time it took for you to learn English or whatever the hell your native language is? Honestly, if you fan-translators can't even be sure that you'll complete your fucking patches, then you shouldn't be in the business of making your work on your patches known until you're actually done. If you're really that passionate about the games to the point where you announce to the whole internet that you're translating them for those who can't read Japanese, then you fucking complete the fucking patches. Period. Don't detract from the fact that you're often regarded as nothing more than attention-whoring elitists.

Because they waste fans' times by bringing their hopes up and making them think that a patch is going to come, they make lame excuses about how they're gonna be sued despite knowing the fact that it's not going to happen, they suck the companies' dicks despite the companies own nasty attitude towards the western market, and they pass themselves as nothing more than pissy attention whores who can't live up to their own expectations, that's why.

I don't know about that. All they need is love to get started. After that it should be trivial to know that people are waiting for the title to be completed. It isn't like people sit here and say "I'd like to play Air" just to two months later decide "Air sucks, I don't want to play it".

While of course having dozens of girls screaming for their translator master would be ideal, it is by no means necessary. Unless you are a crappy translator that couldn't care less about translating and just wants attention.

The main and often only reason fan VN translations (that I know) come about and progress is love for the original material. In that same vein, translations often drop into inactivity because of life priorities or waning enthusiasm. As for a lack of enthusiasm, a sense of duty or commitment carries those translations through.

The exception I know of is Ixrec's policy of full-on commitment to translation every single day, which seems to border on the unhealthy but does get the job done. I kindly doubt he can keep the same pace for all of Alternative without taking a break from the giganto sentences in the Alt universe (past Unlimited).

The case for e-peen might be made for the Brazilian Osadai project. The guy doesn't even credit us, his English source material, and the translation seems to have indefinitely paused after four files.

>> No.5498456

>>5498405
No, some of us opposed it because it's a poor implementation. It lacks a lot of features that should have been introduced right at the start. Plus there's Cudder's enormous ego (this is different from the whole "/jp/ hates Cudder" thing, I've read the Hatsukoi threads and this fact become clear pretty damned fast) - guy's a dipshit. Small, localized, rapidly mobile sites are the right idea, but RETrans is a terrible way to do it until it's brought up to snuff.

Then there's also the problem that community translations have - hopefully they buck the trend sometime, because history's against them.

So unless JAST is lying through their teeth, Demonbane is completely uncensored. And given the amount of effort Nitro+ has put into helping JAST, hopefully the game does well enough to impress them. But it probably won't, thanks to you guys.

Actually, Nitro+ isn't spending ANY effort to help JAST. The entire reason JAST has problems with the engine is because Nitro+ doesn't help them.

That's a wrong assumption. I trust the people actually working on the translation more than Peter "We Really Won't Censor Our Games" Payne.
