"Please stop, Eirin!" the miko begged. An arrow embedded in her leg prevented her from flying to safety.

"I'm killing you for the good of Gensokyo. Give my regards to the Yama," said the pharmacist, as she shot another arrow into Reimu's prone body. It entered with a stiff thud into Reimu's back.

Despite the pain, she was determined to fight back. Raising her arm, she tried to use a spellcard.

"Purify Sign - ahh!"

Eirin stopped it cold with an arrow to Reimu's arm. It hit with enough force to break bone. Eirin's next arrow found a home in Reimu's right eye, enough to destroy the organ but not deep enough to destroy her brain and at least kill her quickly.

She felt cold. She didn't have enough energy left to hold her head up.

She first thought of her ancestors, and how she failed them. She next thought of Marisa. She would never see the witch again, never again feel her warm embrace on a cold day or hear her loud laugh in the warm summer night as they sipped sake together. Putting her head down in the expanding pool of her own blood, Reimu resigned herself to her fate, dying in a bamboo forest.

Eirin calmly walked over and plugged a few more arrows into the corpse, for good measure. She dragged the body back to her lab, for she had a reanimation experiment she's been just dying to test...
