Just what is the appeal about Touhou? Why do you guys laud it as the greatest thing ever?
There are other difficult games. There are other games with cute little girls. There are other games with tons of characters.
Why Touhou? It's pretty mediocre.

The music's pretty good.
I consider the games entertaining - the relatively simple gameplay probably contributes to this.
It has plenty of doujin-works as well.

The music is catchy and enterntaining. I could listen to the same thing for hours and never grow bored of it.
The game is challenging and enterntaining. The patterns are beautiful and creative.
The story and written works have a good plot and are both aspiring and alluring. It also fits personalities not fanonic ones of the characters of the games.
The comic side of it always makes me laugh.
Honestly, what's NOT to like about Touhou besides the fanbase, which you can easily ignore?

In Th06 Marisa is much funnier and not so serious than in other parts.
