I think that most of us generally like Reimu, but since she has appeared in almost every game and a lot of fanworks, we are so used to seeing her as the iconic Touhou symbol that her appearance no longer phases us as much as that of other less common characters. I still very much like Remiu and feel that Touhou couldn't be Touhou without her.

If anything, she's probably suppressing her absolute power during games to stick with the rules of danmaku. If she ever uses her full strength, she breaks the rules, thus making danmaku a useless form of forcing order onto the youkai who act with power. By weakening herself and allowing herself to be subservient to the rules of danmaku, she's protecting all those too weak to protect themselves with the rules of danmaku play.

I'm going by canon. Marisa has been stated to have a disagreeable personality (she's a bitch) while Reimu is stated to be carefree and very optimistic. You have to keep in mind that nobody really stays mad at her at the end of any of the games; perhaps that it's just a mutual understanding that she doesn't attack out of maliciousness and it's just her job?

Marisa, on the other hand, usually goes out of pure boredom.

Reimu goes around trying to solve incidents and beats up people who are unfortunate enough to get in her way; Marisa finds out there's an incident and makes it a point to beat the shit out of everyone she meets and hope one of them caused the incident.

well that has more to do with how pointless creating a Reimu thread usually is, especially with the low quality dumps /jp/ has been in for quite some time (not even hurr durr summer, /jp/ has been pretty terrible for a while now). Posting Reimu threads usually ends in same Reimu is a bitch, meme complete with list on how she's mean to everyone every game.

Despite this, Reimu is pretty popular, she's the iconic main character of the Touhou series and her unique protagonist personality makes her pretty interesting compared to most main characters of other series.

In the same way, liking Reimu is seen as, well, mundane to some. Most people choose other characters but personally Reimu is my favourite. That doesn't mean to say I dislike the others, I have moods and mood changes who I want to see at any one time.

Reimu is a classic though.
